The Afrobanana Republic Festival 2018

The most eagerly anticipated event of the summer is back. This July 20t, 21st and 22nd the AfroBanana Republic Festival will transport revellers to an ethereal parallel universe, infused by the magic of creative innovation and expression, for a thrilling three-days of genre-defying music, holistic wellness, quirky artistic interventions and family fun for all ages.
Organised by non-profit organisation ABR - Alternative Brains Rule, in ongoing collaboration with long-term partners in innovation, the Bank of Cyprus, AfroBanana marks part of the bank's broader strategy of supporting and facilitating the growth of substantial youth led innovative activities that positively impact the local cultural scene. And fuelled by innovation, this year AfroBanana Festival is embracing change, with an incredible new beachside location just steps from the sea, in the picturesque Kiti forest; and the richest day programme the event has ever seen, encouraging Bananians to dive head first into the ultimate summer festival experience.
Encompassing four key pillars – Music & the Arts, Creativity & Innovation, Family & Kids, and Food & Drink – fervent festival enthusiasts can expect a wholly immersive experience. It͛s not just about dancing to mind-blowing music until the sun comes up; running deep through the veins of the festival is a strong community vibe, an impressive environmental conscience and a profound desire to share ideas, celebrate creativityand inspire change.
But back to the music. Renowned for curating of some of the most unique musical experiences on the island, this year the handpicked line-up promises explosive fusion sounds rom around the world, from award-winning international acts such as the universally acknowledged father of highlife and afrobeat, EboTaylor and the Saltpond City Band, bringing unique funky sounds all the way from Ghana, and Afrodyssey Orchestra, ready to blow minds with its African rhythms merged with distinctly Greek musical idioms. Berlin-based Ed Davenport returns for another electrifying set of euphoric house and techno, while four-piece Afro-Latin electronic quartet Penya will add some tribal mysticism to the experience. And what would Cyprus leading festival be without a touch of home. Dedicated to boosting and celebrating the local music scene, and with a finger firmly on the pulse of what͛s hip, hot and
happening on the island, AfroBanana presents the most outrageously talented Cypriot bands and DJ͛s out there, including Afrofox, Mighty Sugarcane and Macumba.
Foodies and gastronomes will have their taste buds satiated at the eclectic Food & Drinks Market, where pop-up stalls serve up mouth-watering taste sensations from around the world and expert mixologists concoct delicious cocktails exclusively for the occasion. The kid͛s area next door provides an inspiring schedule of children͛s activities aiming to engage young minds, ignite curiosity and celebrate creativity – all as parents soak up the festival vibes and relax with a drink or refreshment nearby. However, all members of this quirky community are encouraged to get stuck in, with an alluring mix of events, wellness activities and workshops, including yoga, tai chi, music labs and impromptu surprise performances. With the festival running throughout the day and night, here is more reason than ever before to stay onsite and fully surrender to the magic of the AfroBanana experience. The venue offers limited space to pitch tents under the eucalyptus trees or the purpose-built shade. Amenities and facilities are also available. Internationally recognised as one of Europe͛s finest festivals by EFFE, AfroBanana Republic is working to continually upgrade and improve the experience each year. This
year the new venue provides ample parking space on-site, right beside the entrance, which means no more waiting for buses to take revellers back to their cars and the ultimate ease of access and convenience.
