The area has three of the churches on the UNESCO World Heritage list – the tiny 13th century chapel of Panagia tou Moutoulla in the village of the same name, with its steep-pitched wooden roof, the church of the Archangel Michael in the village of Pedoulas, and the church of the old monastery of Agios Ioannis Lambadistis in the village of Kalopanagiotis. The best-known and richest monastery of Cyprus, Kykko Monastery, is not far from this area, possessing one of three surviving icons ascribed to Saint Luke.

The villages of Kalopanagiotis and Pedhoulas are typical mountain villages, very atmospheric, with Byzantine museums and a charming folk art museum in the latter. The way to explore these villages is on foot, while a number of nature trails start from Kalopanagiotis. There are hotels, several restaurants and shops selling local produce like shoushiouko.
