The sun-kissed southern slopes of the Troodos mountains above Lemesos (Limassol) are known as the 'Krassochoria' and are renowned for their vineyards and delightful hillside villages. The old forms of viticulture are still kept alive in these villages and wine production is still the main occupation for most of the inhabitants. This is the area which produces the island’s famous dry red wine. A number of small wineries welcome visitors on wine tasting tours. The area is reached from the Lemesos (Limassol) - Pafos road, turning right after Erimi village or from the Lemesos (Limassol) - Platres road.

Take a tour of the wineries and in some wine-tasting, or sample other grape-based delicacies. Occasionally you may come across an old stone bridge or a secluded Byzantine church. There are several picturesque villages some famous for their pottery or other handicrafts.

The main village in the area is Omodos, with its narrow streets and majestic monastery in the large cobbled square. The monastery contains old icons, excellent wood carvings and other ecclesiastical objects of interest as well as a small display of local lace. There is also an old wine-press open to visits.

Other interesting villages are Arsos and Foini, known for its pottery, its traditional furniture and for the local sweet, “loukoumi”. Visit picturesque Vasa and Lofou with their narrow alleys, while the charming village of Koilani, with its delightful atmosphere and small square with typical coffee shops and old houses, and small museum, is a great place to stop on the way up the mountains. Laneia, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, is popular with artists, some of whom have studios in the village.

A number of agrotourism establishments can be found in the area including restaurants serving authentic Cypriot cuisine.
