SUMMARY:Exhibition FIVE
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Antiquities\, Ministry of Transport\, Communications and Works\, announces the opening of the temporary exhibition FIVE.\n\n		 \n\n What was it like living in Cyprus in ancient times? What were the people like\, what did they do for a living\, what did they eat\, did they have hobbies\, did they play games or have time for leisure? FIVE adopts an anthropocentric approach allowing us to come “face to face” with the stories of people from the past.\n		 \n\n The exhibition introduces scientific bioarchaeological information translated into narratives that (re)create moments of the life of: the man from Souskiou\, the diadem child from Dromolaxia-Vyzakia\, the man from Idalion\, the woman from Omodos and the woman from Lefkosia (Antigonou street). Their embodied experiences are presented by means of creative storytelling\, incorporating technology\, sound\, visuals\, archaeological findings and site interpretation in order to make archaeological knowledge more accessible\, urging us to review the ways we think and learn about the past. Α separate space annexed to the main exhibition walks us through the basic principles of bioarchaeology\, the study of ancient human remains and the information that can be acquired from them regarding the lives of ancient individuals.\n		 \n\n The exhibition FIVE is organised by the Department of Antiquities within the framework of the Face to Face: Meet an Ancient Cypriot (FF:MAC) project\, coordinated by The Cyprus Institute and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research and Innovation Foundation (grant no. INTEGRATED/0609/0029). FF:MAC aims to increase the appeal and accessibility of cultural heritage through encounters with real individuals from the Cypriot past\, based on bioarchaeological research.\n\n		 \n\n Venue:\n Cyprus Museum\n Nicosia \n Start Date/End Date: 31 March – 17 September 2023 \n Opening ceremony: 31 March 2023 at 18:30 \n Entrance: FREE\n\n		 \n\n

SUMMARY:Anna Alexandrou Art Exhibition\, 6-28 May 2023
DESCRIPTION:Anna Alexandrou Art Exhibition\, 6-28 May 2023 \n «A line\, some colour\, a random path. A journey has just begun! A search for the soul\, a world\, an image… Various materials becoming one\, trying to fit\, to write a course\, a line… a life. Through my work\, I try to express my thoughts\, feelings and concerns. For me this is a game of composition\, colour\, material\, emptiness and fullness on a surface. I experiment with different materials\, like fabrics\, paper\, threads\, sewing\, letters\, words\, symbols and anything that helps me to visually compose what I am trying to say.» (Anna Alexandrou\, 2015) \n The exhibition of the visual artist Anna Alexandrou\, which will take place from 6-28 May 2023\, at aigaia art gallery\, aims to reintroduce Anna’s artworks to the public\, as an important contemporary visual artist of Cyprus\, with a selection from all of her works. \n Her work – purely personal – is an illustrated journey of her experiences\, which\, through various symbolisms\, tell her story. Her work is accessible and multi-layered providing both visual satisfaction and a reason for dialogue\, something that the creator herself always sought. \n		  \n\n Venue:\n αιγαια art gallery\n 81 Agion Omologiton\, 1080 Nicosia \n E-mail: info@aigaia.com.cy \n Opening ceremony: Saturday\, May 6\, 2023\, 19:30 \n Start Date/End Date: \n Monday & Thursday: 9:00-13:00 & 17:00 – 20:00\n Tuesday & Wednesday: 9:00-13:00 & 17:00 – 21:00\n Friday: 9:00-15:00\n Saturday – closed\n Sunday 17:00-20:00 \n Entrance: FREE \n For more information please contact  +357 22445757

SUMMARY:Moutoullas revives the art of “skafi” making
DESCRIPTION:“Skafi” is a traditional Cypriot  kitchenware carved out of pine wood which was used for making bread\, and was an essential kitchen item one expected to find in each household throughout Cyprus. To this day\, the only people who specialise in the art of Skafi making reside in Moutoullas alone. This is because the process of carving a skafi requires a number of special skills and those were traditionally passed from generation to generation within the same family. The people specialising in skafi making are called “skafarides” and their livelihood used to depend solely on the making and selling of “skafes”.\n	 \n	The work of Skafi making is a unique and important part of Cypriot Heritage\, and in 2020 it was recognised as such by the National Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. In an effort to preserve the art of skafi making\, the Community Council of Moutoullas\, in collaboration with the Association of emigrants and friends of Moutoullas\, and Troodos Development Company have organised an event focused on the importance of skafi making in Cypriot culture and history. The event has been kindly sponsored by the Minister of Education\, Sport and Youth\, Mrs Athena Michaelidou who will honor us with her presence on the day.\n	 \n	The event will start at 11am and will last until the late afternoon. It will include an informative talk on the art of Skafi making by Mr Feidias Kountouri\, academic researcher and author of a book based on the history of Moutoullas\, followed by a demonstration of Skafi making by one of the most skilled skafarides (i.e. skafi makers) of our community. Demonstrations of how skafes were used in the older years\, as well as how we can use them today will also be available\, and the participants will have the opportunity to buy their own handmade skafi should they wish to. A photography exhibition will be available in the area dedicated of course on the history of skafi making\, and the event will also include a Cypriot traditional dance show and live music.\n	 \n	Please note that food and drinks will be available in the event on charge. \n	Venue: \n	MOUTOULLAS COMMUNITY COUNCIL\n	Markou Drakou 3\, 2866 NICOSIA\n	Phone number: +357 22952677\n	Fax number: +357 22952290\n	E-mail: k.s.moutoulla@cytanet.com.cy \n\n	\n	Start date/End date: 28 May 2023 \n	Start time/End time:  11:30 –16:00 \n	Entrance Price/Τicket: Free Entrance\n	  \n\n	Event Website and/or Organiser Website:  https://moutoullas.com.cy\n	  \n\n	\n	    \n	  \nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: Troodos Development Company\, Moutoullas Community Council\,\nAssociation of expatriates and friends of Moutoullas \, Association of \nvolunteers and friends of Moutoullas \nTelephone: 22952677 \n Email: k.s.moutoulla@cytanet.com.cy\n Postal Address: Markou Drakou 3\,2866 Moutoullas
