\n\tAuf einem kleinen H\u00fcgel, der die Region rund um den Salzsee \u00fcberblickt, steht die reizende steinerne Kapelle des Agios Georgios Makris. Sie stammt aus dem 13. Jahrhundert und war einst die Kirche des mittelalterlichen Dorfes Agrinou. Heute ist sie ein kleines St\u00fcck Geschichte der byzantinischen Architektur.<\/p>\n

\n\tDorf und Kirche wurden 1426 zerst\u00f6rt, als die \u00e4gyptischen Mameluken in Zypern einfielen und K\u00f6nig Janus von Lusignan gefangen nahmen. Die Kirche wurde schon bald wieder aufgebaut und der K\u00f6nig befreit. Allerdings wurde bis zur Okkupation Zyperns durch die Osmanen eine j\u00e4hrliche Steuer an die Mameluken f\u00e4llig.<\/p>\n

\n\tIm 18. und 19. Jahrhundert diente die Kirche als Kloster, dessen Nebengeb\u00e4ude jedoch im 20. Jahrhundert zerst\u00f6rt wurden, sodass das Umfeld der Urkirche wiederhergestellt werden musste. Ein Wandgem\u00e4lde des Agios Georgios Makris an der Nordwand ist bis heute erhalten geblieben.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
