Es wurde in der zweiten H\u00e4lfte des 12. Jahrhunderts von dem zyprischen Einsiedler und Schriftsteller Neofytos in abgeschiedener Lage am Ende des malerischen Tals gegr\u00fcndet.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\tNeofytos arbeitete eine H\u00f6hle (die sog. \u201eEnkleistra\u201c) aus dem Bergmassiv heraus,<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\n\tdie mit einigen der sch\u00f6nsten byzantinischen Fresken aus dem 12. bis 15. Jahrhundert verziert ist. Das Kloster beherbergt ein bemerkenswertes Kirchenmuseum. In der sp\u00e4teren Kirche befinden sich einige der sch\u00f6nsten postbyzantinischen Ikonen aus dem 16.
