SUMMARY:Limassol Photography Festival
DESCRIPTION:BPRArts Cultural Management presents the “Limassol Photography Festival”\, which opens on 20 October and will last until 12 November 2023. The Festival is being held with the financial support of the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture. \n The Limassol Photography Festival aspires to be established as an important annual event that will significantly contribute to the presentation\, development and evolution of photography. Its primary aim is to promote photographic creativity as an outstanding form of visual expression\, both on the national and international levels. \n As part of the modern photographic landscape\, the Limassol Photography Festival aims to function as a means of recording contemporary social life in the various visual styles and perspectives of the photographers/creative artists\, which project\, suggest and sometimes enrich the photographic vocabulary. \n This year’s Limassol Photography Festival is dedicated to the late participating photographer George Pantazis who left us on the 4th of October 2023. \n The theme chosen for 2023 is “Place or Landscape”. The artists participating in the open air exhibition at the Molos Seaside Park of Limassol\, namely Antigone Solomonidou Droussiotou\, Nicholas Constantinou\, George Pantazis\, Mo Khatib and Max Zhiltsov\, infiltrate the city and through their pictures convey its daily life and local identity. The experiences and techniques of the artists converse with the current image of Limassol and interact with it. The composition of diverse semiological elements in their photographs gives rise to the question whether this is a Place that has become a Landscape or a Landscape that has become a Place. Exhibition curated by Stefanos Kouratzis. \n In a second photographic exhibition titled “Greece is Ordinary II: Triptychs”\, curated by Konstantinos Argianas\, which is presented at the 6×6 Centre for Photography\, the participating Greek photographers Marilia Photopoulou\, Costas Kapsianis and Marinos Tsangarakis\, although setting out from different starting points with their own particular objectives each\, all indulge in a sarcastic yet highly critical commentary on various aspects of modern Greek culture\, its underlying causes and their material traces. The particular work may be described as an alternative visual anthropology of modern Greek culture.\n		  \n Venue\n\n Name: Various areas in Limassol – For the areas click here \n Start Date/End Date: 20 October – 12 November 2023 \n Start time/End time:  For the time click here \n Entrance:  Free\n		 \n\nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: BPRarts Cultural Management\nTelephone: 99 48 66 16\nEmail: catherinenikita@bprarts.com\nPostal Address: \n32 Dimofondos\n1075 Nicosia

SUMMARY:Seeing Through Melancholia: Transcultural Melancholias / Hüzün in the Eastern Mediterranean
DESCRIPTION:From the work of Romantic writers and artists to Eugène Atget’s photography of Parisian streets\, the melancholic gaze of the artist captured portraits\, landscapes and cityscapes throughout the history of modern art. \n This exhibition introduces modern and contemporary transcultural melancholias in the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition to the international contributions of the renowned Parisian photographers Eugène Atget and Edith Guerin\, Armenian-Turkish photographer Ara Güler and Lithuanian photographer Arūnas Baltėnas\, this exhibition will bring together contemporary artists from Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean to the House of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios\, a space of transcultural memories\, encounters and histories. \n Two aspects of the exhibition make it unique in curatorial practices in the context of Cyprus:\n Firstly\, the exhibition brings together artists and poets from the Eastern Mediterranean. This inter-medial approach provides additional opportunities that the single medium of poetry or visual arts working within the strict confines of their medium could not have provided on their own. Additionally\, using the space of the House of Hadjigeorgakis provides an additional dimension of experience through its Ottoman architecture and transcultural memory exchanges to bring to a museum going public a new experience that is usually confined to the gallery space. \n Participating International Artists:\n Eugène Atget (1857-1927) — France\n Arūnas Baltėnas – Lithuania\n Edith Guérin (1910-1998) — France\n Ara Güler (1928-2018)— Τurkey\n Leslie Hakim-Dowek – United Kingdom/Lebanon\n Mustafa Hulusi – United Kingdom/Cyprus \n Artists-Poets Collaborations:\n Etel Adnan\n Alev Adil – Lily Michaelides\n Katerina Attalidou – Niki Marangou (1948-2013)\n Asli Bolayir – Filiz Naldöven (1953-2016)\n Kyriaki Costa – Stephanos Stephanides\n Peter Eramian – Stelios Kallinikou – Haytham el-Wardany\n Lia Lapithi – Daphne Nikita – Elena Fitikidou Alonefti\n Alexandros Pissourios – Lyssandros Pitharas (1960-1992)\n Leontios Toumpouris – Mehmet Yashin\n Natalie Yiaxi \n		 \n Curators: Dr. Alev Adil\, Dr. Gabriel Koureas\n Production: Catherine Louis Nikita \n Venue\n\n Name: The House of Hadjigeorkakis Kornesios\n Telephone No:  +357 22 305 316 \n Website: http://www.culture.gov.cy/dmculture/da/da.nsf/DMLindex_gr/DMLindex_gr?OpenDocument \n Start Date/End Date: 25 October – 19 November 2023 \n Start time/End time:  Tuesday-Friday 8:30-15:30  / Saturday 9:30-16:30 \n Entrance:  Free \n For more information click here\n		 \n\nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: BPRarts\nTelephone: 99 48 66 16\nEmail: Catherinenikita@bprarts.com\nPostal Address: 32 Dimofondos 1075 Nicosia
