SUMMARY:Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra-TIMELESS MASTERPIECES
DESCRIPTION:Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra \nTIMELESS MASTERPIECES\n \nLefkosia: Monday 4 September 2023\nStrovolos Municipal Theatre\, 20:30\n \nThe Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its Artistic Director\, Yiorgos Kountouris\, inaugurates the new season with two timeless masterpieces by Maurice Ravel and Sergei Rachmaninov\, featuring pianist Elena Mitella at the piano solo. \n \nRachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto has been widely described as the greatest piano concerto ever written. It was composed in 1900 and premiered the following year with Rachmaninov himself as the soloist. It is one of his most emblematic works\, reflecting his deeply idiosyncratic musical personality: unrestrained emotional expression\, nostalgia\, pessimism\, emotionally charged and memorable melodies. Its lyricism inspires popular artists of our time such as Céline Dion. The composition makes massive soloistic demands with regards to speed\, virtuosity and stamina as well as sensitivity to the subtle dynamic and rhythmic shades. Significantly\, the 2nd piano concerto was the first composition that Rachmaninov wrote after a three-year period of artistic stagnation and depression\, and has been dedicated to his psychotherapist Dr. Nikolai Dahl. \n \nThe concert will conclude with Maurice Ravel’s ever popular Boléro\, which will guide us through the art of orchestration used to build up its dramaturgy. Boléro grew out of a ballet project commissioned by Ravel’s friend Ida Rubinstein\, to orchestrate piano pieces from Isaac Albéniz’ Iberia. Ida Rubinstein was a former dancer with Diaghilev’s “Ballets Russes” who had formed her own troupe. When the original commission could not come to fruition\, Ravel had to come up with alternative music material to orchestrate\, as there was no time to compose something new. During his summer holiday in 1928\, he came up with a theme over an ostinato rhythmic pattern\, typical of the Spanish dances Fandango and Boléro and then had the ingeniously simple idea to repeat it over and over\, gradually adding more and more instruments and using different instrumental combinations\, thus leading to an ecstatic climax. The composer also hinted to his pupil and biographer Roland-Manuel that the relentless rhythm was also inspired by his memory of the machines of his father’s factory. The premiere of the ballet Bolérowas given in November 1929 in New York\, conducted by Arturo Toscanini and was received with great enthusiasm and a standing ovation. The work was recorded on gramophone twice in 1930\, which has significantly contributed to its popularity. \n \nPROGRAMME\nSergei Rachmaninov: Piano concerto no. 2 in C minor\, op.18\nMaurice Ravel:            Boléro\n \nElena Mitella piano\nYiorgos Kountouris Artistic Director and Conductor \n \nTicket prices:  €12 / €7 (concession)\n \nConcession tickets are available to:\nStudents\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID.\nFree entrance for people with disabilities. \n \nTicket presales: \n\n\n Online at cyso.interticket.com\n\n Αt the Pallas Theatre Box Office every Wednesday 16:00-19:00\n\n 2 hrs before the concert\n\n \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy\n \n \n \n \n \n

SUMMARY:VIENNA MOZART ORCHESTRA
DESCRIPTION:Vienna Mozart Orchestra was founded in 1986 by musicians from the best and most famous Viennese orchestras and from various chamber music ensembles. The artists all shared the aim to preserve the musical tradition and the cultural heritage of Vienna by dedicating themselves to the cultivation and representation of symphonic chamber music of the Viennese Classical Period. As the name Vienna Mozart Orchestra implies\, the 30 musicians devote themselves exclusively to the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, the most accomplished representative of that period who\, though born in Salzburg\, found his home in Vienna. The orchestra’s repertoire ranges from all of Mozart’s symphonies to a great variety of his instrumental concertos (for violin\, piano and wind) to arias and duets from his most famous operas. The special attraction of the orchestra is the Viennese MOZART Concerts performed in historical costumes. \n The choice of the setting\, the program\, the authentic costumes and wigs\, the enthusiasm of all these young musicians and not least the typical Viennese atmosphere\, all contribute to create an ambience which makes the audience feel as though they have stepped back to the end of the 18th century. At that time it was very common just to play single movements of sympho-nies or parts of different concertos alternating them with operatic arias or duets. For those “Musical Academies”\, as concerts were called at that time\, orchestras tried to provide maximum enjoyment for the audiences by setting up their programs of only the most popular pieces of various composers. Today the Viennese MOZART Concerts represent one of the highlights of the Viennese musical events and are an important part of the cultural and artistic life of the Austrian capital. The concerts take place in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein\, the Brahms Hall and in the Vienna State Opera\, Vienna’s biggest and most famous concert halls. During the winter the Orchestra tours worldwide. Several times the company has been to Japan\, where\, in January 1991\, it inaugurated the “Mozart Year”. With great success it performed concerts in Germany\, Italy\, Korea\, Taiwan and in many other countries. More recently\, in 2002 the Vienna Mozart Orchestra represented Austria at the 30th Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. The Vienna Mozart Orchestra has also recorded numerous CDs (“The Best of Mozart” Vol. 1 and 2\, “Sinfonia concertante & Clarinet Concerto”\, “A Mozart Concert in Vienna”\, “A Mozart Evening in Vienna” …) as well as a video entitled “Mozart in Salzburg”. Lovers of classical music will have the opportunity to attend a performance of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra and to immerse themselves for an evening in those former times which shaped Vienna\, the capital and residence of the Habsburg Empire\, as no other cultural period had ever done before: the Baroque!\n		 \n		 \n		 \n Venue:\n\n Name: Castle Square – Pafos\, Pafos Harbour \n Start Date/End Date: 29-30 September 2023 \n Start time/End time:  20:00 \n Entrance:  €20 – €40\, Children €15 \n Tickets: tickethour.com.cy and to all ACS COURIERS \n		  \n\n \n Event Website and/or Organiser Website:  www.pafos.org.cy\n\nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: Pafos Municipality \nTelephone: 26822357 / 26-822854/ 26-932014 \nEmail: town.hall@pafos.org.cy \nPostal Address: 28th of October Square\, 8100 Pafos
