SUMMARY:Sounds of Winds - CySO
DESCRIPTION:SOUNDS OF WINDS \n\n	A programme dedicated purely to music for wind instruments\, under the baton of conductor Zoi Tsokanou and CySO’s principal trumpetist Gareth Griffiths as the soloist. The concert presents a fine selection of three pieces composed between 1878 and 1974 featuring characteristic sound colours from the composers’ countries of origin: AntonínDvořák (Bohemia)\,Gordon Jacob (England) and Jean Francaix (France). \n\n	Dvořák’sSerenade for wind instruments in D minor (1878) is a magnificent work whose composition was sparked by a fascination of the Czech composer with one of Mozart’s wind serenades. Here too\,Dvořákdoes what he is so famous and admired for: combining beautifully the classical serenade genre with traditional Czech and Bohemian dance forms\, rhythms and melodic patterns.\n	 \n	Francaix’s Le gay Paris (1974) for trumpet and wind ensemble is a light-hearted piece full of humorous dialogues between the soloist and the wind instruments.\n	 \n	We close our concert with Jacob’s Old Wine in New Bottles (1959) that is based on four early English folk songs\, to which the composer adds his own unique musical twist\, thus making them all the more enjoyable and fun.\n	 \n	AntonínDvořák: Serenade for wind instruments\, op. 44\n	Jean Françaix:Le Gay Paris for trumpet and wind ensemble\n	Gordon Jacob: Old Wine in New Bottles\n	 \n	Soloist: Gareth Griffiths (trumpet)\n	Conductor: Zoi Tsokanou\n	 \n	Supporters: Limassol Municipality\, Rialto Theatre\, Pafos Municipality \n	Lemesos: Wednesday 16 June 2021\n	Rialto Theatre\, 20:30 \n	Pafos: Thursday 17 June 2021\n	Markideio Municipal Theatre\, 20:30 \n	Lefkosia: Friday 18 June 2021\n	Pallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate\, 20:30 \n	Ticket prices: €12\, €7 (18-26 yrs\, pensioners)\, €5 (under 18)\n	Ticket presales: \n\n\n Rialto Theatre: online at rialto.interticket.com – Rialto App and at the Theatre Box Office Mon-Fri 10:00-15:00.\n\n Pallas and Markideio Theatres: online at cyso.interticket.com\n\n For the concert at Pallas\, tickets are also available at the Box Office every Wednesday 16:00-19:00.\n\n Τickets will not be available at the theatre box offices on the concert day.\n\n\n	 \n	Rialto Theatre (Andrea Drousioti 19\, Heroes Square\, 3040 Lemesos\, 77777745)\n	Pallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181)\n	Markideio Municipal Theatre (Andrea Geroudi 27\, 8010 Pafos\,26 22228)\n	 \n	For more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, email: c.elia@cyso.org.cy\n	  \n\n
