DESCRIPTION:July at Rilato Theatre… \n\n	Music for Shepherds and Sultans – Michalis Kouloumis*  \n	Music from Cyprus and classical music of Constantinople / Contemporary Modal Music. \n	Michalis Kouloumis and Tristan Driessens embark on what is just the beginning of a closer partnership\, with Catalan multi-instrumentalist Miriam Encinas joining them on frame drums and pithkiavlin. Their repertoire organically fluctuates from original compositions in classical Ottoman style to anonymous rural dances of Cyprus. With this choice of repertoire and especially with their way of interpreting it\, Michalis Kouloumis\, Tristan Driessens and Miriam Encinas bridge a gap between classical and folk music. Compositions such as Isfahan Saz Semaisi or Köyde Sabah somehow reflect how classical music has always been deeply inspired by folk music legacies. The festive summer production “Cyprophonia 3” is the culmination of this season for both orchestras\, as they join forces to form a fully-fledged symphony orchestra and perform three stunning masterpieces under the baton of the CyYSO Artistic Director\, Yiorgos Kountouris.\n  \nThe young\, talented members of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra\, share their enthusiasm and youthful passion with the professional musicians – many of whom are their coaches at the CyYSO Music Academy – offering to the audience an extraordinary and precious showcase of cocreation of the highest caliber. \n \nThis production showcases the talents of two highly promising young musicians from the youth orchestra who will perform as soloists. Loucas Demetriou\, CyYSO concertmaster\,will perform the dazzling “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso”by Camille Saint-Saëns\,whose masterycombines exquisite melodic lines\, emotional depth and plenty of virtuosic display. Petros Chimonides\, CyYSO principal percussionist\, will perform Paul Creston’s Concertino for marimba and orchestra (1940)\, a work with Ravelian flavor\, imbued with harmonic and rhythmic elements of jazz and Latin-American music. \n \nAnd then comes the “Titan”! Gustav Mahler’s 1st Symphony\, a landmark in the history of the symphonic genre.
