SUMMARY:Blunefe (In the framework of the 17th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Blunefé is a duet based in Cyprus\, formed by Andreas Andreou (oud) and Christos Yerolatsitis (piano) in 2020. The name of the duo comes from the blendingof two different musical scenes that each separately has the ability to combineand balance elements from various music genres.\n	A word game between “Blues” and “Künefe” showcases the musicians’ open minds and ability to mix elements from Blues\, Jazz and the music traditions of the Eastern Mediterraneanregion. The band’s sound balances between the West and the East\, in the same way that sour cheese blends\n	with the sweet sugar syrup found in the well-known Künefedessert.\n	 \n	The repertoire primarily includes original music\, composed by the main group members Christos Yerolatsitis and Andreas Andreou.\n	 \n	Andreas Andreou: oud\n	Christos Yerolatsitis: piano\n	Nicolas Tryphonos: double bass\n	Omiros Miltiadous: drums  \n\n	\n	 Venue:  \n\n	Parking Place of SΕΚ (Behind of the Rialto Theatre) \n	Kyriakou Economou 21\, 3040 Limassol\n	Phone number: 77777745\n	Fax No.: 25749663\n	Website: www.rialto.com.cy \n	Start date/End date:  22 July 2022 \n	Start time/End time:  21:00-22:30 \n	Entrance Price/Τicket: €5 (Free entry for musicians\, pupils & students) \n	  \n\n	  \n\n	\n	    \n	  \nRialto Theatre\nTelephone No.: +357 25343902\nE-mail: niki@rialto.com.cy

The protagonist of the story is an adventurous chicklet named Kiki\, which will come to life through storytelling\, projected illustrations and live music.\n \nKiki makes a journey in America which starts from San Francisco\, passes through the Grand Canyon and ends in New York City – the “Big Apple”! During her trip\, Kiki will discover music by American and European composers inspired by the natural beauty of America\, melodies of Native Americans and Afroamericans\, Latin music and Jazz. Moreover\, the work “New York Suite” by Cypriot composer Tasos Stylianou that has been specially commissioned for this programme by the CySO Foundation\, will embody the sounds of New York!\n \nThese family – educational concerts include interactive musical activities between the musicians\, the music educators and the children. A brief workshop will follow where the children will have the opportunity to try some of the instruments of the orchestra.\n \nThe main goal of the concerts and workshops is to promote musical exposition and education of children from the early years of their life.Specifically\, they aim to introduce children to classical and jazz music\, the instruments of the symphony orchestra and cultivate their musicality in creative ways. The children will have the opportunity to experience music through emotional expression\, movement\, language\, the use of imagination and creation of their own drawings. The philosophy of the educational family concerts derives from the idea that “Creative adults come from creative children\, and only a creative society can change the world creatively” (E. Barkin). \n \nConcert duration: 50’\nWorkshop duration: 30’ \n \nΜusical excerpts and songs:\nAntonin Dvořák: “New World” Symphony\, excerpt from the 1st movt.\nAaron Copland: Appalachian Spring\, excerpt \nLeonard Bernstein: songs from West side story\nDuke Ellington: “C-Jam Blues” and “Take the ‘A’ train”\, orchestration: Tasos Stylianou \nLouis Armstrong: “What a Wonderful World”\nTasos Stylianou: “New York Suite” – Special commission by the CySOF\, Cyprus premiere\n \nProgramme Creator – Music Educator: Christina Charalambidou\n \nIllustrations: Anna Stylianidou\nNarration: Sophie Lambrou\nJazz musicians: Ioanna Troullidou (voice)\, Charis Ioannou (saxophone)\, Μarios Toumbas (piano)\n    \nConductor: Petros Stylianou\n \nSupporters:Larnaka Municipality\, Pafos Municipality\nGrand Sponsor: OPAP Cyprus\n \nTicket price: €7 for all\nFree entrance for people with disabilities. \n \nTicket presales:\nLemesos concert: Online at www.soldoutticketbox.com\, at the Box Office: Mon-Fri: 10:00-13:00 and 16:00-19:00 and before the concert.\nLefkosia\, Larnaka and Pafos concerts: Onlineat www.cyso.org.cyand at the Box Office every Wednesday 16:00-19:00 and 2 hrs before the concert.\n \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy\n \n \nFor more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, email: c.elia@cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:Welcome Maestro Neuhold - CYSO
DESCRIPTION: \nThe Cyprus Symphony Orchestra welcomes on stage its new Artistic Director and Conductor\, Gϋnter Neuhold! In their first concert together\, they will present two masterful symphonies: Mozart’s Symphony no. 35\, known as the Haffner Symphony\, and Tchaikovsky’s 5th.\n \nThe Haffner Symphony\, composed in 1782\, typifies the late symphonies of Mozart in their ambitious dimensions\, greater demands on performers\, harmonic and contrapuntal complexity\, and final movements that are climactic rather than light. One is struck by the wide range of emotions and styles permeating the score.\n \nTchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphonywas written in 1888\, at a time when his international reputation had already grown considerably. A central motive representing Fate runs through the entire symphony\, and appears in the major key in the long coda of the finale\, thus evoking a triumphant mood.\n \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony no. 35 in D major\, K. 385\,“Haffner”\nPyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 5 in E minor\, op. 64\n \nConductor: Gϋnter Neuhold \nLefkosia: Thursday 5 May 2022\nNicosia Municipal Theatre\, 20:30\n \nEntrance: FREE\n \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy\n \n  \nFor more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, email: c.elia@cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:Starlight 4 - Cyprus Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:CYPRUS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA\n	STARLIGHT 4 \n	Τhe Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is honoured to share the stage in this programme with the charismatic\, world-class maestro Carlos Kalmar. During his vast career\, Carlos Kalmar has held the position of Music Director of the Oregon Philharmonic for eighteen years and has conducted the most celebrated symphony orchestras of the US\, such as the Chicago\, New York\, Los Angeles\, Boston and San Francisco. Under Kalmar’s rigorous conducting and the CySO\, the audience will enjoy two romantic works written at the end of the 19th century. \n	Τhe programme will open with Antonín Dvořák’s (1841–1904) wondrous Symphony no. 9\, known as the symphony “of the New World”\, which he complete in 1893\, a year after his arrival in the United States. Intrigued with the folk idioms of America\, Dvořák embodied the peculiarities of Negro and Indian music in the themes of this symphony. \n	Next\, Carlos Kalmar will conduct The Overture and the Polovtsian March from Alexander Borodin’s (1833–1887) exotic opera Prince Igor. Infused with Russian folk song idioms and “oriental” melodies\, Borodin didn’t manage to complete this grandiose opera. The Polovtsian March – which signifies the triumphal return of the Polovtsian army – was completed by Borodin and orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov. \n	Antonín Dvořák: Symphony no. 9 in E minor\, op. 95 (“From the New World”)\n	Alexander Borodin: Excerpts from the opera Prince Igor: Overture and Polovtsian March \n	Conductor: Carlos Kalmar \n	Venues:\n	Lefkosia:  Nicosia Municipal Theatre\,Thursday 17 February 2022\, 20:30 \n\n	Lemesos: Pattihio Municipal Theatre Friday 18 February 2022\, 20:30 \n\n	Ticket prices: \n\n	Stalls Premium Seats: €35 / €28 (concession)\n	Stalls Regular Seats: €30 / €24 (concession)\n	Balcony: €22 / €17 (concession) \n	Concession tickets are available to: Students\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID. SUMMARY:«KARAGIOZIS GOES TO A CONCERT» - Cyprus Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:«KARAGIOZIS GOES TO A CONCERT»\n	Family Concerts \n	Larnaka: Wednesday 2 February 2022\, Larnaka Municipal Theatre\, 18:30\n	Pafos: Thursday 3 February 2022\, Markideio Municipal Theatre\, 18:30\n	Lefkosia: Friday 4 February 2022\, Nicosia Municipal Theatre\, 18:30\n	Lemesos: Saturday 5 February 2022\, Rialto Theatre\, 17:00\n	 \n	 \n	The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra\, under the direction of its honourary conductor\, Mr. Alkis Baltas\, presents an original musico-theatical performance that combines “Karagiozis” shadow theatre with popular classical works. The performance is both entertaining and instructive and will initiate children and grown-ups alike into the world of classical music!\n	 \n	Storyline:\n	 \n	Nionios (Mr. Dionysios)\, an ardent music lover\, tries to convince Karagiozis to attend a classical music concert\, organized by Vizier’s daughter. Karagiozis refuses to do so until Veligegas orders that everyone should attend the concert: Karagiozis\, Barbayiorgos\, Stavrakas\, Hadjiavatis and all the other Shadow Theatre characters. During the concert\, Karagiozis has many questions: about the instruments\, the music\, the composer and other things\, which Nionios patiently explains in simple words\, wishing to initiate him into the world of classical music. Gradually\, Karagiozis completely changes his view about this music\, which he previously thought to be difficult and rather dull! Now he loves it!\n	 \n	Mr. Alkis Baltas’ note about the creation of the performance:\n	 \n	The idea for creating a musico-theatrical performance for children that would be both recreational and at the same time a fine introduction to classical music\, has been in my mind for quite a few years now. In July 2016\, I was finally able to materialise this project. So\, Karagiozis came to mind. This Greek folklore shadow theatre hero whom I used to watch as a child in performances shown in my neighborhood\, continues to spread great enthusiasm and fun to young and old even in our days. So\, I wrote the story of this performance\, I chose the works that would suit its unfolding and I arranged some of them for a small musical ensemble. \n	 \n	The work was ready musically. However\, the key-artist was missing: a Karagiozis puppeteer. I had the fortune of meeting an excellent professional who carries on the great tradition of Karagiozis shadow theatre\, Thodoris Kostidakis. I gave him the text I had written to which he made a few additions of his own\, experienced as he is in this folk art form. Both of us got excited at the prospect of presenting this work.  The work was first performed in December 2016 in Lefkosia by a CySO ensemble and was an instant success. We are now taking it all over Cyprus\, with two Karagiozi puppeteers this time\, brothers Thodoris and Babis Kostidakis.\n	 \n	…Through the funny episodes in the work\, the young members of our audience will learn many things about music and\, of course\, about classical works. I hope that not only our young friends\, but also their parents will love this performance!\n	 \n	 \n	Idea\, storyline\, selection and orchestration of musical works: Alkis Baltas\n	Shadow Theatre: “Karagiozis” Puppeteers of “Anemodoura” Thodoris and Babis Kostidakis (in Greek)\n	Conductor: Alkis Baltas\n	 \n	Supporters:Larnaka Municipality\, Pafos Municipality\, Rialto Theatre\, Limassol Municipality\n	 \n	Ticket prices: €7 for all\n	Free Entrance to people with disabilities.\n	 \n	Ticket presales:\n	Larnaka\, Pafos and Lefkosia concerts:Online at www.cyso.org.cy\,and at Pallas Theatre Box Office every Wednesday 16:00-19:00.\n	Lemesos concert:  Online at www.rialto.com.cy\, and at theBox Office\, Mon-Fri: 10:00-13:00 and 17:00-19:00\, Sat: 10:00-13:00.\n	 \n	Larnaka Municipal Theatre (Leonida Kioupi\, Larnaka\, 24 665794)\n	Markideio Municipal Theatre (Andrea Geroudi 27\, 8010 Pafos\,26 222286)\n	Nicosia Municipal Theatre (Mouseiou avenue 4\, 1097 Lefkosia)\n	Rialto Theatre (Andrea Drousioti 19\, Heroes Square\, 3040Lemesos\, 77777745)\n	 \n	Information: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy\n	 \n	 \n	 \n	For more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, email: c.elia@cyso.org.cy\n	 \n

SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - PREMIERE 1
DESCRIPTION:CYPRUS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA\n	PREMIERE 1 \n\n	Αmusical encounter of our honourary conductor Alkis Baltas with both\, the CySO and Savvas Lagou\, one of its violinists and the featured soloist in Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto. Distinctive for its gracefully ornatesolo writing\,especially in the cadenzas\, this lightly orchestrated concerto is one of the five that Mozart wrote during his lifetime\, all composed in 1775 at the early age of 19. \n\n	Our concert opens with yet another classical delight: Joseph Haydn’s exquisitely vivacious and lyrical Overture in D major\, written two years later in 1777.\n	“Triptychon” by Alkis Baltas will be receiving its Cyprus premiere in this programme. Commissioned in 1978 by a German company\, it was premiered in Berlin the same year\, by an orchestra consisting of members of the Deutsche Oper Berlin\, under the direction of the composer. It is distinguished for its use of contrapuntal techniques within a more contemporary style. \n	Τhe Suite no. 2 is one of the earliest examples of Stravinsky’s emerging neoclassical tendencies and ranks among his lightest and most amusing works.\n	 \n	Joseph Haydn: Overture in D major\, Hob.la:7\n	Wolfgang AmadeusMozart: Violin concerto no. 3 in G major\, K. 216\n	AlkisBaltas: Triptychon[Cyprus premiere]\n	Igor Stravinsky: Suites no. 1 & 2\n	 \n	Soloist: Savvas Lagou (violin)\n	Conductor: Alkis Baltas \n	Venues:\n	Lefkosia: 13 October 2021\n	Pallas Theatre\n	Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181) \n	Larnaka: Thursday 14 October 2021\n	Larnaka Municipal Theatre (Leonida Kioupi\, Larnaka\, 24 665794) \n	Pafos: Friday 15 October 2021\n	Markideio Municipal Theatre (Andrea Geroudi 27\, 8010 Pafos\,26 222286)  \n	Start Time/EndTime: 20:30 \n\n	Supporters:Larnaka Municipality\, Pafos Municipality \n\n	\n	Ticket prices:\n	Stalls Premium Seats: €18 / €14 (concession)\n	Stalls Regular Seats: €13 / €10 (concession)\n	Balcony: €8 / €6 (concession)\n	 \n	Season Tickets for Premiere Series\n	6 concerts (only for the Lefkosia concerts)\n	Stalls Premium Seats             €90\n	Stalls Regular Seats               €60\n	Balcony                                   €42\n	 \n	Concessions available to: Students\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID.\n	Free Entrance for people with disabilities. \n	 \n	Ticket presales: \n\n\n Online at www.cyso.org.cy and at the box office before the concert if no restrictive measures apply.\n\n Pallas Theatre Box Office: every Wednesday 16:00-19:00.\n\n\n	 \n	For more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, email: c.elia@cyso.org.cy \n\n	 \n
