SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Premiere 4 - 19.2.2026
DESCRIPTION:Lefkosia: Thursday 19 February 2026 – Pallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate\, 20:30 \nWe are thrilled to welcome back as the featured soloist\, the orchestra’s former principal cellist Peter Gospodinov from where he went on to become solo cellist in the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Finland. In this highly engaging programme the CySO also welcomes at the podium the highly reputable Finnish conductor Kalle Kuusava\, winner of prestigious conducting competitions. \nThe evening will open with ‘Interruptions’\, an exciting new work by the distinguished Cypriot composer Charis Sophocleous – a special commission by the CySO Foundation within its collaboration with the Centre of Cypriot composers. According to the composer\, “the work is inspired by the many unwanted interferences that might occur throughout the course of an orchestral work”. \nPeter Gospodinov’s unique artistic temperament will shine in the Cello concerto of yet another distinguished Cypriot composer and member of the CySO\, Constantin Papageorgio. \nCarl Maria von Weber’s Symphony no. 1 will provide a brilliant closure to this memorable concert. Composed when the composer was only 20\, it bursts with youthful energy\, sparkling orchestral colour\, and the adventurous spirit that later defined his operatic style. \n  \nSupporters: Embassy of Finland in Nicosia\, Larnaka Municipality \n  \nPROGRAMME \nHaris SOPHOCLEOUS: ‘Interruptions’ (World premiere – Special commission by the CySO Foundation to the Centre of Cypriot Composers) \nConstantin PAPAGEORGIO: Concerto for cello and orchestra (2022) \nCarl Maria von WEBER: Symphony no.1 in C major\, op.19 \n  \nPeter Gospodinov cello \nKalle Kuusava conductor \nTicket prices: €18 / €14 (concession)\, €13 / €10 (concession) \nConcession tickets are available to: \nStudents\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID. \nFree Entrance for people with disabilities. \n  \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181): \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:Hambis Municipal Printamking Museum\, Nicosia - 21.1-18.4.2026
DESCRIPTION:The Evolution of Printmaking  in Europe from the 16th Century to the Present Day through Works from the Hambis Printmaking Museum Collection \nThe exhibition includes only the first two printmaking techniques\, Woodcut and Etching. \nOn the occasion of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of Europe\, the Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum in Nicosia\, presents an important exhibition of prints from its collection. The exhibition offers an overview of the two basic techniques of printmaking\, woodcut and etching  in Europe. The works have been selected based on the variety of periods in which they were created – from the 16th century to the present day – as well as the variety of themes. Emphasis is placed on presenting the different methods of the two techniques. \nThe aim of the exhibition is to highlight the creativity and inventiveness of printmakers in relation to painting. With the aim of highlighting the primary and essential role of Printmaking in the dissemination of images across all social spectrum\, the exhibition presents both independent works and book illustrations\, aimed at a wide audience. It also offers an overview of European artistic movements\, with works by the great names in painting and printmaking. The exhibition\, presents the many exchanges in the art world between European countries. \nA brief history of the two techniques \nPrintmaking appeared in the West World in the early 15th century and contributed significantly to the dissemination of texts and images. Woodcut\, the original form of printmaking\, was based on engraved wooden blocks that could be easily printed along with the typographic elements. In this technique\, only the raised\, unengraved parts of the wood retain the ink and are imprinted on the paper\, a process called Relief. The ability to reproduce works gave artists the opportunity to disseminate their designs to a wider audience. \nFrom the 15th century onwards\, woodcut began to compete with etchings. Engraving on metal plates\, mainly copper\, allowed for greater precision and detail\, as metal is more durable and uniform than wood. In copperplate printmaking\, ink is retained in the engraved lines\, while the smooth areas are cleaned\, a process called intaglio. \nAlthough printmaking made great strides\, it never gained the prestige of painting\, as it struggles to fully render the nuances of light and color. However\, many important artists were also printmakers\, creating original works of high artistic value that brought art closer to the general public. \n  \nΛεζαντες / captions \nJohann GRÜNINGER – Βεργιλίου Αινειάδα Η άλωση της Τροίας (5091 III) \nFrans MASEREEL La ville N° 13-42-72-100 (4918-21) \nΧΑΜΠΗΣ Η φραγκοεκκλησιά (4632) \nAuguste RODIN & Auguste LEPÈRE Buste de Balzac (5254) \nFrancisco José de GOYA y LUCIENTES Nadie nos ha visto(3943)   \nMarc CHAGALL L’âne chargé d’éponges et l’âne chargé de sel (3480) \n  \nCurator – Texts: Helen Reeb \nCollection: Hambis Printmaking Museum \nOPENING HOURS \nWEDNESDAY – SATURDAY \n10:00 – 13:00 / 15:00 – 17:00

SUMMARY:Chamber Music 2 - TRIO MILONGUERO Argentinian Tango - 9.11.2025
DESCRIPTION:Trio Milongero was formed in 2024 by three distinguished Cypriot musicians: Nicos Ioannou – principal double bass of the CySO\, guitarist Vasileios Avraam and accordionist Fotis Mousoulidis.  Globally\, it is perhaps the second ensemble with this combination of instruments\, which makes it unique and fascinating in terms of the timbres mixture. \nThe Trio will present works by the Argentinian composer Máximo Diego Pujol\, in which he combines traditional tango with classical and contemporary elements. Influenced by Astor Piazzolla\, his music is characterized by strong melodies\, tempo and rhythm alternations\, and a particularly expressive use of the guitar and the bandoneon (accordion)\, thus conveying the passion and melancholy of the Argentinian tango. \nPujol’s works also incorporate elements of the milonga and the waltz\, whilst maintaining the dance and narrative character of the music of Buenos Aires. \nTrio Milonguero’s programme features stunning pieces such as ‘Gris de madrugada’\, ‘Maria Rosario’\, ‘Tangazo a medianoche’ and ‘Estacion Retiro’\, among others. \nVasileios Avraam guitar \nFotis Mousoulidis accordion \nNicos Ioannou double bass \nrs. \nSupporter: Larnaka Municipality \nTicket price: €12 / €7 (concession) \nConcession tickets are available to: \nStudents\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID. \nFree Entrance for people with disabilities. \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181): \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \n Information: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:Crafting Continuity Fashion Exhibition - 7-9.11.2025
DESCRIPTION:The Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus (FHNC) proudly presents Crafting Continuity\, a three-day bi-communal exhibition reimagining Cyprus’ rich traditions through the lens of sustainable contemporary fashion and design. Taking place 7–9 November 2025 at The Picnic in Nicosia\, this year’s showcase continues FHNC’s mission to bridge cultural heritage and innovation while empowering the next generation of Cypriot designers. \nOrganized by the Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus (FHNC)\, Crafting Continuity invites visitors to discover a new chapter in the island’s fashion heritage — one where traditional craft meets modern creativity. The exhibition brings together young Cypriot designers and master artisans from across Cyprus and the diaspora\, united by a shared passion for preserving and reinterpreting traditional techniques for a more sustainable future. \nShowcasing the results of months of mentorship and collaboration\, each designer has worked alongside skilled artisans to learn endangered crafts such as land-loom weaving\, Lefkara and Lapithos embroidery\, and basketry. The outcome is a series of original\, forward-looking fashion pieces that celebrate Cyprus’ cultural identity while pushing the boundaries of contemporary design. \nAs part of the exhibition\, FHNC will also launch the inaugural issue of its independent publication\, Defteri. Created to preserve and reimagine Cyprus’s fashion heritage\, Defteri is a multidisciplinary magazine that blends sustainability\, cultural memory\, and creativity through essays\, interviews\, and visual narratives. Developed by a collective of writers\, designers\, and cultural practitioners from across Cyprus and the diaspora\, Defteri amplifies the voices shaping the island’s evolving craft culture and will be unveiled during the exhibition’s opening night.\nFHNC’s vision is to combine ethics and aesthetics\, reviving and safeguarding Cyprus’ fashion heritage while inspiring younger generations to integrate heritage into conscious\, sustainable creation. “Crafting Continuity offers a unique opportunity to experience how centuries-old techniques are evolving into future-facing fashion” says Christina Dymioti\, Director of the FHNC. \nBuilt on the belief that cultural knowledge and craftsmanship are essential to community resilience\, environmental awareness\, and intergenerational connection\, this exhibition\nhighlights the deep sustainability already embedded in Cypriot heritage — from natural dyeing to reuse\, repair\, and upcycling. \nBeyond a celebration of craft and design\, Crafting Continuity also deepens bi-communal collaboration and youth engagement\, connecting designers and artisans from across divided communities and the global Cypriot diaspora. These partnerships keep traditions alive while fostering dialogue\, creativity\, and collective cultural pride. \nShowcased Fashion Designers & Artisans\nDesigners\n● Andreani Panayide & Valentina Koutsoudis — Folkmona\n● Andrea Rotsaki — ROTS\n● Anna Michaelidou — Yiavrimou\n● Elin Yurtdaş – Elin Yurtdaş\n● İlkan Koral — ILKAN.KO\n● Mert Özyürekliler — Shirvanna\n● Rengin Akcan — RA Studio\n● Şafak Bekiroğlu — the besque\n● Stephanos Panayides — spangold\n● Tülay Kader — Fashion House Tülay Kader \nArtisans\n● Aysel Kuburlu — HASDER\n● Behice Sönmez Biran — B.S. SUMMARY:Family Concerts 1 with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Musical Stories - 11.10.2025
DESCRIPTION:Lefkosia: Saturday 11 October 2025 – Pallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate\, 16:00 & 17:30 (2 concerts) \nThe Ugly Prince for narrator and orchestra \nAuthor: Galateia Kazantzaki \nScript adaptation\, music curation: Alkis Baltas \n  \n“The Hare and the Tortoise” for narrator\, two singers and orchestra   \nConception\, music selection\, orchestration\, original compositions: Alkis Baltas \nAesop’s myth adaptation: Vicky Stylianou \nWith images & short video projections \n  \nGiorgis Christodoulou singer \nEleonora Roussou singer \nPetros Georkadjis narrator \nAlkis Baltas conductor \nGet ready for a magical family concert\, where the Orchestra’s little friends set off on a fun-filled journey into the world of stories and imagination! With the delightful voices of Giorgis Christodoulou and Eleonora Roussou leading the way\, and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alkis Baltas\, music and storytelling come together in the most exciting way. Joining us on this adventure are three charming heroes: an ugly prince\, a speedy rabbit\, and a determined turtle! \nA person’s beauty lies not in physical appearance\, but in the kindness of the heart. The tale “The Ugly Prince” – written by Galateia Kazantzaki\, first wife of Nicos Kazantzakis – reminds us of this great truth. Conductor and composer Alkis Baltas has lovingly adapted the text and curated the incidental music to the tale which comprises Franz Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony no. 8 and his German Dance in Anton Webern’s arrangement.   \nThe story of Aesop’s well-known fable “The Hare and the Tortoise” is simple and fun. The speedy hare and the slow\, steady tortoise decide to have a race. But who do you think will win? Through this tale\, Aesop (625–560 BC) shows us that it’s not good to be boastful\, and we should never underestimate anyone or make fun of others who may seem weaker. He also reminds us that being strong or fast is not enough to win in life. SUMMARY:Family Concerts 1 with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Musical Stories - 10.10.2025
DESCRIPTION:Pafos: Friday 10 October 2025 – Markideio Municipal Theatre\, 18:00 \nThe Ugly Prince for narrator and orchestra \nAuthor: Galateia Kazantzaki \nScript adaptation\, music curation: Alkis Baltas \n  \n“The Hare and the Tortoise” for narrator\, two singers and orchestra   \nConception\, music selection\, orchestration\, original compositions: Alkis Baltas \nAesop’s myth adaptation: Vicky Stylianou \nWith images & short video projections \n  \nGiorgis Christodoulou singer \nEleonora Roussou singer \nPetros Georkadjis narrator \nAlkis Baltas conductor \nGet ready for a magical family concert\, where the Orchestra’s little friends set off on a fun-filled journey into the world of stories and imagination! What really helps us reach our goals is patience and keeping on trying\, no matter what! \nIn between the storytelling\, a selection of beloved songs by Mikis Theodorakis\, Spyridon Xyndas\, Costas Cacoyannis\, Dimitris Maragkopoulos and Alkis Baltas will be heard\, as well as a traditional song from the Dodecanese and two songs by George Hadjipieris from the much-loved song series “The Lazy Dragon.” The orchestration is by Alkis Baltas\, while the story of the fable has been adapted by Vicky Stylianou. SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Chamber Music 1 - Piano Quartet\, Brahms & Mahler - 3.10.2025
DESCRIPTION:CYPRUS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA – Chamber Music 1 – PIANO QUARTET – Brahms & Mahler \nLefkosia: Friday 3 October 2025 – Pallas Theatre\, 20:00 \nJohannes Brahms: Piano quartet no. 3 in C minor\, op. 60 \nGustav Mahler: Piano quartet in A minor \n  \nAyşe Karaoğlan violin \nVladimir Tkachenko viola \nPinar Bayraktar cello \nManolis Neophytou piano \nThe distinguished CySO violinist Ayşe Karaoğlan and cellist Pinar Bayraktar\, long-standing chamber music partners\, are now turning their artistic curiosity towards the piano quartet repertoire. To embark on this new journey\, they join forces with two exceptional musicians: CySO’s sub-principal violist Vladimir Tkachenko and the brilliant Cypriot pianist Manolis Neophytou. \nSharing a deep love for Brahms\, their programme starts with his Piano quartet no. 3 in C minor composed in 1875 — a piece with a fascinating connection to the composer’s life. Brahms famously described it with dark emotional imagery\, writing to his publisher: “Imagine a man who is about to shoot himself because nothing else remains to him.” This vivid sentiment reflects the quartet’s turbulent emotional landscape – rooted in Brahms’ deep inner conflict between pain for the mental illness of his friend Robert Schumann and his own love for his wife\, Clara Schumann. \nJust one year later\, in 1876\, the 15 year-old Gustav Mahler\, then student at Vienna Conservatory\, composed his Piano quartet in A minor. There is a foreboding darkness and intensity of emotion in this very early work\, whereby one can hear echoes of the music of Schumann and Brahms. \nSupporters: Rialto Theatre \n  \nTicket price: €12 / €7 (concession) \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181): \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy \nFor more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, \nemail: c.elia@cyso.org.cy
