SUMMARY:Family Concerts 1 with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Musical Stories - 11.10.2025
DESCRIPTION:Lefkosia: Saturday 11 October 2025 – Pallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate\, 16:00 & 17:30 (2 concerts) \nThe Ugly Prince for narrator and orchestra \nAuthor: Galateia Kazantzaki \nScript adaptation\, music curation: Alkis Baltas \n  \n“The Hare and the Tortoise” for narrator\, two singers and orchestra   \nConception\, music selection\, orchestration\, original compositions: Alkis Baltas \nAesop’s myth adaptation: Vicky Stylianou \nWith images & short video projections \n  \nGiorgis Christodoulou singer \nEleonora Roussou singer \nPetros Georkadjis narrator \nAlkis Baltas conductor \nGet ready for a magical family concert\, where the Orchestra’s little friends set off on a fun-filled journey into the world of stories and imagination! With the delightful voices of Giorgis Christodoulou and Eleonora Roussou leading the way\, and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alkis Baltas\, music and storytelling come together in the most exciting way. Joining us on this adventure are three charming heroes: an ugly prince\, a speedy rabbit\, and a determined turtle! \nA person’s beauty lies not in physical appearance\, but in the kindness of the heart. The tale “The Ugly Prince” – written by Galateia Kazantzaki\, first wife of Nicos Kazantzakis – reminds us of this great truth. Conductor and composer Alkis Baltas has lovingly adapted the text and curated the incidental music to the tale which comprises Franz Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony no. 8 and his German Dance in Anton Webern’s arrangement.   \nThe story of Aesop’s well-known fable “The Hare and the Tortoise” is simple and fun. The speedy hare and the slow\, steady tortoise decide to have a race. But who do you think will win? Through this tale\, Aesop (625–560 BC) shows us that it’s not good to be boastful\, and we should never underestimate anyone or make fun of others who may seem weaker. He also reminds us that being strong or fast is not enough to win in life. What really helps us reach our goals is patience and keeping on trying\, no matter what! \nIn between the storytelling\, a selection of beloved songs by Mikis Theodorakis\, Spyridon Xyndas\, Costas Cacoyannis\, Dimitris Maragkopoulos and Alkis Baltas will be heard\, as well as a traditional song from the Dodecanese and two songs by George Hadjipieris from the much-loved song series “The Lazy Dragon.” The orchestration is by Alkis Baltas\, while the story of the fable has been adapted by Vicky Stylianou. Images and short videos will be shown on screen during the musical story! \n  \nTicket price: €8 for all \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181): \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Chamber Music 1 - Piano Quartet\, Brahms & Mahler - 3.10.2025
DESCRIPTION:CYPRUS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA – Chamber Music 1 – PIANO QUARTET – Brahms & Mahler \nLefkosia: Friday 3 October 2025 – Pallas Theatre\, 20:00 \nJohannes Brahms: Piano quartet no. 3 in C minor\, op. 60 \nGustav Mahler: Piano quartet in A minor \n  \nAyşe Karaoğlan violin \nVladimir Tkachenko viola \nPinar Bayraktar cello \nManolis Neophytou piano \nThe distinguished CySO violinist Ayşe Karaoğlan and cellist Pinar Bayraktar\, long-standing chamber music partners\, are now turning their artistic curiosity towards the piano quartet repertoire. To embark on this new journey\, they join forces with two exceptional musicians: CySO’s sub-principal violist Vladimir Tkachenko and the brilliant Cypriot pianist Manolis Neophytou. \nSharing a deep love for Brahms\, their programme starts with his Piano quartet no. 3 in C minor composed in 1875 — a piece with a fascinating connection to the composer’s life. Brahms famously described it with dark emotional imagery\, writing to his publisher: “Imagine a man who is about to shoot himself because nothing else remains to him.” This vivid sentiment reflects the quartet’s turbulent emotional landscape – rooted in Brahms’ deep inner conflict between pain for the mental illness of his friend Robert Schumann and his own love for his wife\, Clara Schumann. \nJust one year later\, in 1876\, the 15 year-old Gustav Mahler\, then student at Vienna Conservatory\, composed his Piano quartet in A minor. There is a foreboding darkness and intensity of emotion in this very early work\, whereby one can hear echoes of the music of Schumann and Brahms. \nSupporters: Rialto Theatre \n  \nTicket price: €12 / €7 (concession) \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181): \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy \nFor more information you may contact Constantia Elia at 22 463135\, \nemail: c.elia@cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:ζ-η-θ\, the Stranger. A return to the sources: a visit to three “Odyssey” rhapsodies - 25-26.7.2025
DESCRIPTION:In the afterglow of two performances that were destined to linger in memory\, “NEKYIA”—presented with the Japanese theatre troupe NOH in 2015—and Sophocles’ “Trackers” in 2021\, Michail Marmarinos revisits the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus with yet another riveting dramaturgical proposal. Ηere\, he orchestrates a return to the sources through a journey to three rhapsodies of the Homeric epic\, confirming once more that the endless mystery of oral Storytelling (the cavernous mystery of Theatre itself) can still thrillingly propel us “there\, where history is still occurring”.  \nA stranger – and an “Οίος”\, too – as Homer calls him\, meaning “all alone” – a wreck of a man after the total wreck of his ship\, crushed by his unequal battle with the sea\, cast upon a shore…\n(Really\, does this image remind us of anything from nowdays? Have we caught sight of anything like this – even just a glimpse – anywhere in the world of current affairs all round us?)\nHere\, on a foreign shore he did not choose\, Fate decreed\, he should seek and rediscover his body\, his face\, his name. \nMichail Marmarinos \n  \nInformation:  THOC  77 77 27 17

SUMMARY:Evgeny Grinko: Conert in Kourion - 6.7.2025
DESCRIPTION:Celebrity Gala presents: \nFor the very first time in Cyprus — Evgeny Grinko’s live performance at the ancient amphitheatre of Kourion! \nOne evening. One grand piano. A string quartet. And a stage where 2\,000 years of history meet the cinematic pulse of neoclassical music.\n⠀\nEvgeny Grinko\, the acclaimed composer and pianist whose music resonates across Europe\, will perform in Cyprus for the very first time — as part of his Summer Europe Tour. \nHis compositions are intimate and magnetic — blending gentle piano with orchestral textures and deep emotional current. Often called the Eastern European Einaudi\, Grinko’s sound evokes comparison with Max Richter\, Yann Tiersen\, and Ólafur Arnalds — yet remains uniquely his own. \nOn this night\, under the stars\, his most beloved pieces will be performed surrounded by candlelight and the spellbinding acoustics of the ancient Kourion theatre. \nEvgeny Grinko’s first — and possibly only — concert in Cyprus. Capacity is limited — this is an open-air venue with a once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere. \n  \nFor the tickets click here

SUMMARY:Horika Ydata written and directed by Lina Nikolakopoulou - Larnaka 3.7.2025
DESCRIPTION:Lina Nikolakopoulou’s long career as a lyricist encompasses not only the world of music but the theatre also\, where she has collaborated with a number of important directors and composers on a wide range of great works from ancient dramaturgy to the modern day. \nIn Horika Ydata\, the major Greek poet and lyricist directs excerpts from theatrical works and their songs\, for which she has also written linking texts. The production weaves a colourful tapestry of comedy and drama\, focussing on timeless themes that shape human nature\, fate and deeds. \nMany of the songs written for theatre have taken on a life of their own\, becoming popular without audiences knowing that they originated in the theatre. In Horika Ydata\, they return to their original home: the stage. Starting with Lysistrata (1986) and then The Trojan Women\, Plutus\, The Knights\, Oedipus\, The Sixth Floor\, Wild Honey\, and The Little Slave\, Lina Nikolakopoulou accentuates how the Choric art – a combination of poetry\, music and dance – plays a crucial role in shaping performance. Songs\, both familiar and less well-known\, each with a theatrical story to tell\, come together in a captivating production that engages the audience on a deeply emotional level. \nJoining Lina Nikolakopoulou in her creative endeavours is a superb team of artists whose talent is an integral part in the final result: Angelos Mentis and Angelos Angeli\, designers of the set and costumes respectively; Socrates Leptos\, arranger\, conductor and music coach of the production; and Fotis Nikolaou\, responsible for movement and choreography. \nEight performers – four men and four women from three generations – bring a wide range of dramatic skills to the stage\, with their acting\, dancing and singing: the grande dame of the theatre\, Annita Santorineou\, who embodies the spirit of the legendary era of Karolos Koun\, Stella Fyrogeni\, Alexandros Bourdoumis\, Haris Pisias and Niovi Charalambous\, who have had a long and successful career in theatre\, and the younger cast members\, Christos Grozos\, Loukas Prokopiou and Maria Tsiakka. \nSix accomplished instrumentalists bring the music to life with a wonderful blend of virtuosity and flair. \nCreative Team \nText\, Direction: Lina Nikolakopoulou\nSet design: Angelos Mentis\nCostume design: Angelos Angeli\nArrangement\, Musical direction: Socrates Leptos\nChoreography\, Movement: Fotis Nikolaou\nLighting design: Georgios Koukoumas\nArtistic associate: Georgia Meshiti\nSpecial props: Stefanos Nearchou\nAssistants to the set designer and costume designer: Panayiotis Andreou\, Evanthia Demetriou \nCast:\nAnnita Santorineou Alexandros Bourdoumis\nStella Fyrogeni Haris Pisias\nNiovi Charalambous Christos Grozos\nMaria Tsiakka Loukas Prokopiou \nOn-stage musicians: Katerina Paraschou (song)\nIoannis Karseras\, Andreas Krambias\, Socrates Leptos\, Andreas Michalopoulos\,\nMarios Solomou\, Andreas Theocharous \nPerformances: \nLimassol\nKourion Ancient Amphitheatre*\nFriday 13 June 2025 (with English and Turkish surtitles) \nNicosia\nAmphitheatre Makarios III\, School for the blind\nWednesday 18 June 2025\nThursday 19 June 2025 (with Greek surtitles)\nFriday 20 June 2025 ((with English and Turkish surtitles) \nDeryneia\nMunicipal Amphitheatre\nFriday 27 June 2025 \nLarnaka\nPattichion Amphitheatre\nThursday 3 July 2025\nwithin the framework of the Larnaka Festival 2025 \nAll performances begin at 21:00 \nTicket Prices\n€20 / €10 (unemployed\, pensioners\, large families with presentation of documents\, persons under 25 years of age with presentation of ID) \n*Free transport by bus is available from Pafos to the Kourion Ancient Amphitheatre\nFor further information\, www.thoc.org.cy \nPermission to perform at Ancient Monuments is granted by the Deputy Ministry of Culture \nInformation / Tickets \nOnline at www.thoc.org.cy\nThoc Theatre box office\, tel. 77772717 (Tuesday-Saturday 10am-1.30pm & 4pm-6pm)

SUMMARY:Contemporary Greek Mythology - 11-13.6.2025
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition Contemporary Greek Mythology presents a powerful series of large-scale linocuts (1m x 1.5m)\, all carved and hand-printed by myself. I first learned the technique in the UK\, and this body of work is the result of years of personal growth and experimentation.\n\n\nThese pieces reinterpret ancient Greek symbols and myths with a raw\, contemporary energy. Alongside them\, several of my older realistic paintings will also be displayed\, offering insight into the broader evolution of my artistic journey.\n\n\nThis is one of the first exhibitions of it’s kind in Cyprus and will feature a unique surprise event on opening night.\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening of the exhibition:  11 June 2025  19:30-22:00\nVisiting hours:  12-13 June 10:00-13:00 & 16:00-19:00
