SUMMARY:What the Butler Saw
DESCRIPTION:What the Butler Saw\, is an intensely funny farce set in the sexually charged private clinic of psychiatrist\, Dr. Prentice.\n As the play opens\, Dr. Prentice is interviewing the young\, attractive Geraldine Barclay to be his new secretary. During her brief interview\, she reveals that she has recently lost her adoptive mother after a gas explosion\, and does not know the true parentage of either of her parents. Unbeknownst to Geraldine\, Dr. Prentice is also doing his best to seduce her but his efforts are thwarted throughout the course of the day.\n As Geraldine undresses behind a screen (as part of Dr. Prentice’s “examination”)\, the psychiatrist’s wife\, Mrs. Prentice\, interrupts them\, dressed only in her underwear. While Geraldine is concealed\, it emerges that Mrs. Prentice is being blackmailed by a young bellboy named Nicholas Beckett\, after spending the night with him at the Station Hotel.\n To avoid scandal\, she promises the post of secretary to Beckett\, unaware that her husband is interviewing Geraldine for the same position. Mayhem ensues as Geraldine\, Beckett\, and a local policeman\, Sergeant Match\, all disrobe and swap clothes as Dr. Prentice attempts to keep some sort of order in his chaotic clinic. Dr. Rance\, a crazed psychiatrist\, comes to the clinic in the midst of the chaos to carry out a government inspection. As he diagnoses madness all round\, and subsequently tries to section most of those present\, the truth about Geraldine and Nicholas Beckett’s parentage is revealed.\n Both Geraldine and Nicholas reveal halves of a locket that was given to them by their birth mother before she abandoned them. Mrs. Prentice recognizes the locket\, revealing that she was seduced in a closet at the Station Hotel\, while working as a chambermaid shortly before her marriage. Dr. Prentice then reveals that the locket was originally his and given to the woman whom he also seduced before his marriage. Realizing their pre-marital liaison\, the couple are amazed\, yet strangely delighted\, by their incestuous behavior towards their newly discovered children. The strange group leave the clinic\, bedraggled and disrobed\, to face the world together. \n *suitable for people over 15 years old\n		 \n Translation: Andreas Christodoulidis\, Maria Karsera\n Director / Lighting design: Andreas Christodoulidis\n Sets / Costumes: Maria Chatzikleanthous\n Assistant director: Eleni Anastasiou\n Photography: Dimitris Vattis\n Poster design: Giannos Christoforou\n Playing (in order of appearance): Myria Argyrou\, Sotiris Mestanas Angelina Mitka\, Antonis Parkharidis\, Michalis Christou\, Nektarios Loizidis \n Venue: \n Theatro Ena\n Postal address: 4 Athinas Avenue\, 1016 Lefkosia\n Phone number: +357 22348203\n Website: www.theatroena.com.cy\n Social media: https://www.facebook.com/theatroena\n https://www.instagram.com/theatroena/?hl=el \n Start date/End date:   04/05/2022 – 21/05/2022 \n Start time/End time:  Every Friday\, Saturday at 20:30 and every Sunday at 19:00 \n Entrance Price/Τicket:  €15 & €10 \n		  \n\nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: Theatro ena\nTelephone: 22348203\nEmail: theatroena@cytanet.com.cy\nPostal Address: 4 Athinas Avenue\, 1016 Lefkosia

SUMMARY:Live Drawing: A Portrait of the Mona Lisa
DESCRIPTION:Live Drawing: A Portrait of the Mona Lisa  \nBy Alpha Square\, a staged reading of the imagined dialogues between Leonardo da Vinci and Lady Gioconda of the Jules Tasca’s play. She is feisty. She is docile. She is clever. She is naive. She is a dozen other contradictions. She is the famous Mona Lisa. And her painter\, Leonardo\, has the obligation to capture the facets of this young woman. A speculation drama about the three years it took the famous Da Vinci to paint his globally known masterwork. She wants to be immortalised by the most famous painter in Europe. He has personal reasons to keep the portrait to himself rather than release it to Francesco Gioconda\, who commissioned his wife’s portrait. SUMMARY:«Agamemnon» by Aeschylus
DESCRIPTION:Aeschylus’ Agamemnon (458 BCE)\, THOC’s first ever staged production in 1971\, is revived this summer as part of the celebrations marking the Organisation’s 50th anniversary. The tragedy\, directed by Lea Maleni\, is the first drama of the Oresteia\, Aeschylus’ only extant trilogy. Deeply political at its core\, Agamemnon limns the traces inscribed upon the fate of man by a regime where violence begets violence. \n	The stage is set in front of the palace of the Atrides\, in Argos\, where King Agamemnon returns after the end of the Trojan War\, with Cassandra\, King Priam’s daughter\, as a trophy by his side. Clytemnestra will initially welcome him as befits a king\, while playing hostess to the foreign woman. Behind this façade lurks a well-devised plan of revenge that culminates when Clytemnestra murders Agamemnon\, abetted by her lover\, Aegisthus. \n	The Aeschylian trilogy opens with an abominable act to raise the first poignant\, well-timed questions of justice and democracy. Lea Maleni probes into the essence of the play with an accomplished team of actors and associates by her side\, as she sets out to touch upon an enduring desideratum in a world of powers and counterpowers that has never given up the strive for equilibrium.\n	  \n	Venues:\n	Lefkosia: Makarios III Amphitheatre\n	Dates:\n	Friday 16 July 2021\n	Saturday 17 July 2021\n	Wednesday 21 July 2021\n	Thursday 22 July 2021 (greek surtitles)\n	Friday 23 July 2021 (english and turkish surtitles) \n	Larnaka: Pattichion Municipal Amphitheatre\n	Date:\n	Wednesday 28 July 2021 (within the framework of Larnaka Festival) \n	Deryneia: Municipal Amphitheatre\n	Date:\n	Friday 30 July 2021 \n	Lemesos: Kourion Ancient Amphitheatre\n	Dates:\n	Wednesday 4 August 2021\n	Thursday 5 August 2021\n	Friday 6 August 2021 (english and turkish surtitles) \n	Star tdate/End date: 16 July – 6 August 2021\n	Start time/End time: 21:00 – 23:00   \n	Entrance Price/Τicket:  \n	€17 / €8 (unemployed persons\, pensioners with relevant documentation\, large-families\, persons under 25 years of age providing their national identification card) \n	Website: www.thoc.org.cy \n	Social Media Channels of Event and/or of Event Organiser\n	(e.g. Facebook\, Instagram etc.):\n	Facebook: ΘΟΚ/THOC\n	Instagram: th.o.c\n	Twitter: THOC \n	  \n \n\n	  \nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: Cyprus Theatre Organisation \nTelephone: 22864300 \nEmail: info@thoc.org.cy \nPostal Address: 9 Grogori Afxentiou stre.\, 1096 Lefkosia\, Cyprus

SUMMARY:«Shakespeare in a Nutshell»
DESCRIPTION:Dream Theatre Productions presents a site-specific performance adapted from Adam Long\, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield’s play The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). The play ingeniously joins together some of the British playwright’s greatest works\, often daring to even mock some of his gravest tragedies.\nEnvisioned with a number of alternating roles and characters\, the play is infused with improvisation as well as audience interaction and puts forth a radical interpretation of works such as\, Romeo and Juliet\, Titus Andronicus and Othello\, presented through introductions and links that help the guide the audience. Special focus on concise versions of Julius Caesar\, Antony and Cleopatra and Macbeth\, as well as Hamlet.\nThe play is set (and will also take place) in an outdoor natural setting\, without the help of stereotypical sets\, with the participating actors often going beyond the roles they take on. Furthermore\, the text is shaped through work done collaboratively not only before\, but also\, during the show.\nThe show is centred on movement\, directed and enhanced through the music. Movement\, music and direction\, along with the text of Shakespeare in a Nutshell result in a performance that takes into consideration the natural environment of the communities and the traditions of the villages of Cyprus\, within the framework of program Cultural Decentralization 2021. \nDirection: Mara Constantinou\nActors: Andreas Koutsoftas\nMaria Poyiatzi\nMikaella Theodoulidou\nMichalis Kazakas\nJulie Gregoriou \nChoreography: Eva Kalomiri\nMusic: Ermis Michael\nSet Design: Pavlina Evgeniou\nLight design: Vasilis Petinaris\nTranslation: Alekos Michaelidis\n  \n\n	Venues:\n	1. SUMMARY:2021 International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama
DESCRIPTION:The International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama raises the curtain on the 2021’sedition after last year’s cancellation due to the covid pandemic and is ready to offer an exciting line-up of performances to the audience that has been attending faithfully in recent years; a July full of unique theatrical moments!\n	 \n	The pandemic may have forced the organisers to cancel last year’s edition\, but it ignited their desire to create a high-quality programme for 2021. The goal and desire of the organisers is to maintain the rising and successful course recorded by the International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama\, to ensure the artistic quality of the performance programme and the largest possible attendance of Cypriot and foreign visitors.\n	 \n	Emphasizing on the quality and cooperation with distinguished theatrical organisations\, a diverse and extroverted programme is offered to the spectators\, with performances of modern aesthetic and artistic approach to the ancient drama\, highlighting the scope and prestige of the Festival locally and abroad.\n	 \n	In the 2021’s edition\, five esteemed theatre companies from Greece\, Israel\, Italy and Cyprus present performances of ancient Greek drama at Curium Ancient Theatre in Limassol and at “Skali” Amphitheatre in Aglantzia\, from July 2 to July 30\, 2021.\n	 \n	The five productions of this year’s Festival\n	 \n	The opening of this year’s Festival will take place at Curium Ancient Theatre with the extremely edgy and highly topical comedy of Aristophanes\, Ecclesiazusae\, in an original version of a contemporary\, folk operetta in translation\, libretto and music by Stamatis Kraounakis\, directed by Marianna Calbari. After winning over critics and spectators in their first presentation at the crowded Herodion in 2019 and in the performances that followed in Thessaloniki and Athens\, Ecclesiazusae come to Curium Ancient Theatre for two performances on July 2 and 3.\n	 \n	Following\, for a unique performance on July 5 at “Skali” Amphitheatre\, Sophocles’ Antigone\, one of the most complete texts of ancient Greek drama\, presented by the Jerusalem Khan Theatre under the direction of Udi Ben Moshe\, one of the most significant directors of Israel. Timeless criticism on the arrogance of power and autocracy and the conflict between unwritten moral laws and institutional state laws\, emerge through a contemporary stage “reading” emphasizing resistance against the modern political context as well as the current conflicts between religion and state.\n	 \n	The National Theatre of Greece returns to the Festival\, eleven years later\, with Aristophanes’ comedy The Knights\, directed by the distinguished choreographer and director Konstantinos Rigos\, featuring an outstanding cast. Equestrian\, combative\, hilarious\, in an “ancient – modern” mix\, through the innovative perspective of the director\, the Knights get ready to “rap” at Curium Ancient Theatre on the 16th and 17th of July.\n	 \n	Euripides’ masterpiece\, Medea\, which deals with the last act of the passionate relationship between Jason and Medea\, is this year’s Cypriot production in the Festival\, directed by Aliki Danezi Knutsen. Seven actresses\, in a unique stage setting guided by speech and sound\, retrieve and reconstruct the dark and fierce forms of Euripides’ tragedy. The creation of Roads and Oranges Film Productions\, will be presented at “Skali” Amphitheatre on July 21 and 22 and at Curium Ancient Theatre on July 24.\n	 \n	Prometheus Bound\, Aeschylus’ shocking tragedy\, staged by the Associazione Culturale Dide Di Michele Dio and the Fahrenheit 451 Teatro of Italy\, under the direction of the award-winning director\, Daniele Salvo\, concludes this year’s Festival with two performances at “Skali” Amphitheatre on July 28 and at Curium Ancient Theatre on July 30. A deeply archetypal text\, Prometheus Bound is a structured poetic-philosophical treatise on human conscience\, a source of concepts and meanings that transcend the boundaries of ancient Greek mythology\, permeating Western thought and culture. The fire that Prometheus stole is a light that continues to burn.\n	 \n	*With Greek and English surtitles \n\n	Venue:\n	1.  Curium Ancient Theatre\n	2.  “Skali” Amphitheatre Aglantzia \n	Start date/End date:   2-30 July 2021 \n	Start time/End time:  Performances start at 21:00 (Please arrive at the theatre before 20:15) \n	Ticket prices: \n	€12 regular\n	€8 reduced (students\, senior citizens\, national guard\, unemployed)\n	€45 Festival pass (per person for attending all five performances)\n	€10 group sales (over 10 persons per performance) at ticketing@soldoutticketbox.com\n	 \n	Free admission:\n	▪People with disabilities\, upon reservation of free pass (at least five days prior to each performance) at tel. 70002414Please show proof at ticket gate\n	▪Members of CCOITI\, upon early settlement of the membership fee for 2021 and use of the personal code for the necessary reservation of an entrance ticket.\n	 \n	Ticket sales: \n	Online at www.soldoutticketbox.com\n	Ticket box locations:\n	□ STEPHANIS stores in all cities\n	□ TIME OUT Kiosk in Paphos \n	Event Website and/or Organiser Website: www.greekdramafest.com \n	Social Media Channels of Event and/or of Event Organiser\n	(e.g. Facebook\, Instagram etc.):FB   \n	 FB: https://www.facebook.com/greekdramafest/\n	Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/greekdramafest/\n	 #letGreekdramabegin #greekdramafest #drama #cyprus #festival   \n	 Download the pdf booklet of the events \n\n \nTelephone: 7000 2414 \nEmail: info@ccoiti.org.cy

SUMMARY:«Fainting»
DESCRIPTION:The Fainting performance consists of two famous one-act comedies by Russian playwright Chekhov\, the Marriage Proposal and the Bear. Written in 1888-1889\, the plays have been perfomed to theatrical stages scenes many times worldwide. But they keep their comic scourge unabated\, since they are based on physical humor – as the title of our show shows – in quick and smart dialogs\, and in recognizable situations and characters: The daughter of marriage age and the incumbent aspiring son-in-law who cannot agree on the boundaries of a field – or anything else (guarantee of marital happiness!)\, and the unscrupulous captain with the debilitating widow who disagree to the extremes about the repayment of a debt – but always with a happy ending.\n	The creative team approaches the two plays in a playful mood to entertain the public\, to recommend works of great literary value to them\, and to fuel the timely/timeless source of their comedy: the arrogance of characters\, the lack of knowledge about themselves\, and social hypocrisy.\n	These figures show Chekhov’s aristotechnical pen that\, at the age of 28\, wrote works that have remained on the map of literature and theater for over 130 years. The Marriage Proposal and Bear are classic texts for this and they’re “speaking” in today with the same freshness that they were speaking to the audience when they were first wrıtten. \n	Venue:\n	THEATRE ANTILOGOS\n	Phone number: +357 99251331\n	Social media: TheatroAntilogosfacebook/instagram \n	Start date/End date:   1/07/2021 – 27/08/2021  \n	Start time/End time: 20:00 – 21:15\n	 \n\n	Entrance: FREE \n	  \nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: Antilogos theatre Company\nTelephone: 99 251331\nEmail: theatroantilogos@yahoo.com\nPostal Address:

SUMMARY:«Esmé» by Spyros Peresiades
DESCRIPTION:In a village of the Kalavryta district\, near the Monastery of Agia Lavra\, on the cusp of the 1821 Greek Revolution\, two youths\, Drosos and Esmé\, take an oath of love. Their ancestry undermines their oath: Drosos is Greek and Esmé is Turkish. Their love\, faced with strong resistance from their families\, will be put to the test. \n	This dramatic idyll by Spyros Peresiades\, the playwright of the renowned Golfo\, crafted in the demotic language across fifteen-syllable verses\, brings out the power of true love that stands tall in the face of all the hurdles. \n	Marina Vronti and her associates put on view the emotion\, sense of humour and idiomorphic poetic language of a play identified with the Greek tradition in this contemporary revival of a story that relays the timeless message of love. \n	The production\, linked to the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence\, will tour Cyprus during the summer. It has also been invited to a staging in Athens in the context of the Athens-Epidaurus Festival\, on the 23 and 24 of July 2021. \n	Venues:\n	Lefkosia: Makarios III Amphitheatre\n	Dates:\n	Thursday 24 June 2021\n	Friday 25 June 2021 (greek surtitles)\n	Saturday 26 June 2021 (english and turkish surtitles)\n	Saturday 31 July 2021\n	Tuesday 3 August 2021\n	Wednesday 4 August 2021 \n	Deryneia: Municipal Amphitheatre\n	Dates:\n	Friday 2 July 2021\n	Saturday 3 July 2021 \n	Lemesos: Κourion Ancient Amphitheatre\n	Dates:\n	Thursday 8 July 2021\n	Friday 9 July 2021\n	Saturday 10 July 2021 (english and turkish surtitles) \n	Larnaka: Pattichion Municipal Amphitheatre\n	Date:\n	Wednesday 14 July 2021 (within the framework of Larnaka Festival) \n	Athens Epidaurus Festival\n	Pireos 260 (D)\n	Friday 23 July 2021\n	Saturday 24 July 2021\n	  \n	Star tdate/End date: 24 June – 4 August 2021\n	Start time/End time: 21:00 – 22:30     \n\n	Entrance Price/Τicket:  \n	€12 / €6 (unemployed persons\, pensioners with relevant documentation\, large-families\, persons under 25 years of age providing their national identification card) \n	Website: www.thoc.org.cy \n	Social Media Channels of Event and/or of Event Organiser\n	(e.g. Facebook\, Instagram etc.):\n	Facebook: ΘΟΚ/THOC\n	Instagram: th.o.c\n	Twitter: THOC \n	  \n \n\n	  \nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: Cyprus Theatre Organisation \nTelephone: 22864300 \nEmail: info@thoc.org.cy \nPostal Address: 9 Grogori Afxentiou stre.\, 1096 Lefkosia\, Cyprus
