SUMMARY:Klirou 6th Culture Festival – "The Wood Burning Oven Gives Birth to Bread and Love" - 9-10.10.2026
DESCRIPTION:The Klirou Community Council is inviting you to attend the 6th Cultural Festival in the village of Klirou\, entitled “The Wood Burning Oven Gives Birth to Bread and Love” — a two-day celebration of cultural events dedicated to the traditions\, memories and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Cyprus. \nThe Festival will take place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October 2026 in Klirou\, and is aiming at transforming the old village centre into a vibrant space for gathering\, creativity and hands-on engagement with Cypriot tradition. \nThe Intangible Cultural Heritage Comes to Life \nThe main goal of the Festival is to present and promote the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Cyprus through hands-on experiences. Tradition is not only presented as a part of the past\, but also as a living process passed down from generation to generation through creativity\, music\, dance\, flavours and human connections. \nVisitors will have the opportunity to take part in hands-on workshops focused on breadmaking\, music and dance\, whilst exploring the old village centre of Klirou. \nA special place in this year’s Festival is given to the participation of the Municipalities of Lapithos and Lefkoniko\, who will present elements of their cultural heritage as inscribed on the UNESCO list\, bringing their memories\, local practices and traditions from the Turkish occupied areas to the village of Klirou. \nIn an effort to promote and document our cultural heritage\, the contribution of the University of Cyprus is important and instrumental\, supporting the Festival’s academic and educational dimensions. \nThe Two-Day Festival Itinerary \nThe Festival starts on Friday 9 October\, with the opening ceremony at 7:00 p.m. at the Events Hall of the Klirou Community Council. Before that\, at 3:00 p.m.\, there will be a Traditional Dance Workshop\, where the renowned dance instructor Antonis Dallarís will teach traditional dances from the Greek Island of Leros. \nAt 8:30 p.m.\, there will be an opening of an exhibition by Maria Chatzitofi\, entitled “Colours and Threads”\, at the Old Inn Hall of Klirou (Chàni tis Klirou). The exhibition will be officially opened by Mr Konstantinos Georgatzis\, the President of the District Local Government Organisation (EOA). \nThe Festival’s main event will take place on Saturday\, 10 October. \nFrom 3:30 p.m.\, the old village centre will come alive with activities and hands-on workshops\, giving visitors the opportunity to experience traditional practices up close and actively participate in a unique cultural experience. \nHighlights include the Tsippopitta and Millopitta workshops\, presented by the two guest municipalities of Lefkoniko and Lapithos. Also featured is a pumpkin (nerokolloko) decoration workshop\, showcasing two different techniques — traditional and contemporary — presented by two enthusiasts of this craft. \nOur young visitors will have the opportunity to take part in children’s workshops\, which will include activities like storytelling and crafts\, all inspired by our Cypriot folk traditions. Among the workshop leaders are Christiana Mouzoura and Chrysostomos Melis. \nDancing and singing are among the key elements that make the Festival stand out. In four small village squares\, visitors will have the opportunity to sing and dance to traditional music from the Greek Island of Leros\, Macedonia\, the Cyclades and\, of course\, Cyprus. \nAnother highlight of the Festival will be the reenactment of a traditional Cypriot wedding\, which will include a lot of Cypriot customs and ceremonial traditions. \nAnd\, just like every other festival in Klirou\, there will be plenty of food and drinks. \nThe two-day Festival will peak at 8:00 p.m. in the village church courtyard with a grand music and dance event — a festive celebration bringing together music\, dance and tradition. \nThe 6th Cultural Festival in Klirou is an open invitation to reconnect with tradition through the senses\, human participation and collective memory. Because the oven does not give birth to bread alone; through fire\, kneading and sharing\, it creates human connections\, stories and culture. \nThe Klirou Community Council is inviting everyone to take part in the two-day schedule of events and experience firsthand a celebration dedicated to tradition\, cultural heritage and love for the place we call home. \nAttached hereby you will find the itinerary of the planned hands-on activities\, children’s workshops as well as all the music and dance activities.

SUMMARY:LYSOS CULTURAL FESTIVAL - 16.8.2026
DESCRIPTION:The Lysos Cultural Festival is one of the most important institutions of the community and is closely connected with the history\, tradition\, and identity of Lysos. Starting in 1984\, the Festival has been held almost every year and has become a special cultural event that brings together generations\, families\, friends\, and expatriates of Lysos from every corner of the world. \nEvery year\, the Festival serves as a major meeting point for residents\, friends\, and especially the expatriates of Lysos\, who return to the village from different countries to reunite with relatives\, friends\, and fellow villagers. It is an evening full of emotion\, memories\, and love for the village\, where older generations remember the past and younger generations learn about their traditions and roots. \nThis year’s Cultural Festival at the Lysos fountain will take place on Sunday\, 16 August 2026\, at 8:30 p.m.\, in a location of special symbolic importance for the community. The Lysos fountain\, a landmark and traditional meeting point of the village\, will host a beautiful summer evening dedicated to culture\, music\, dance\, and tradition. \nThe evening’s programme will include live music and dancing by the musical group “SCORPIOS”\, with the participation of Giorgos Hatzis and Marina Angelou. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a festive musical evening\, with songs and rhythms that will create a warm and joyful atmosphere for everyone. \nAt the same time\, the Festival will honour Cypriot tradition through traditional dances performed by the Ieroi Kipoi Cultural Group\, offering visitors an authentic cultural experience. The traditional dances give the event a special character\, highlighting the customs\, heritage\, and cultural identity of our community. \nThere will also be stalls offering food\, resi\, drinks\, and sweets\, giving visitors the chance to enjoy traditional flavours and experience the genuine hospitality of the community. Resi\, one of the most characteristic traditional dishes\, holds a special place in the Festival and is directly connected with our folk tradition. \nA particularly interesting part of the day will take place in the morning. At 10:30 a.m. on 16 August\, there will be the grinding of resi at the traditional mill of Lysos. This activity revives an older village practice and gives visitors\, especially younger people\, the opportunity to experience an important part of our cultural heritage. \nThe Lyssos Cultural Festival is not simply an entertainment event. It is a tradition that keeps alive the memory\, heritage\, and unity of the community. It is the moment when Lysos opens its arms to residents\, expatriates\, and friends of the village\, offering an evening full of music\, dancing\, traditional tastes\, emotion\, and beautiful memories. \nFrom 1984 until today\, the Festival continues to be a point of reference for Lysos and its people. It is a celebration for everyone who loves the village\, honours their roots\, and wishes to keep alive their connection with tradition and the community. \nWe look forward to welcoming you all on Sunday\, 16 August 2026\, at the Lysos fountain\, for an evening for everyone — an evening full of Lysos\, tradition\, music\, and love. \n  \nFor the programme click here
