SUMMARY:Agia Napa 19th Medieval Festival - 12-19.10.2024
DESCRIPTION:The month October can rightly be called «Medieval October» for Agia Napa\, as these mysterious times are revived through its Medieval Festival. From the 12th to the 19th of October 2024\, Agia Napa time travels back to the Middle Ages. The 8-day long journey through the myths with the fair maidens\, the fairies and the iron-clad knights who battle dragons and villains\, transports us to a world of fantasy\, mystery and magic. Through the fantastic parades\, the re-enactments of events and the daily lives of people from another era\, the storytelling through music and song\, the Medieval Festival of Agia Napa leaves an indelible social and spiritual imprint of the legends.\nThe Medieval Festival was first celebrated in the year 2006\, and it has managed to become\, after 18 years of successful events and collaborations with other Medieval Festivals such as the Medieval Festival of Rhodes\, Malta – Mendina and the Carnival of Venice\, to become one of the largest in Europe. Music and dance performances\, street theaters and narrative tours by groups of dancers\, musicians\, artists and students from Cyprus and European countries\, follow the footsteps of medieval exploits. The festival also offers bazaars with handmade products and homemade food of that distant era and exhibitions of textiles\, weapons and embroidery\, which can be found along the passage of the Monastery of Agia Napa during the eight days. \nFor the programme click here

SUMMARY:Limassol Carnival 2024 - 7-17.03.2024
DESCRIPTION:The Limassol Carnival is the oldest and most popular folk festivity in Limassol but also across Cyprus. To this day\, the Carnival remains a strong urban and family tradition for the people of Limassol\, a tradition handed down from one generation to the next. The main characteristics of the Carnival festive season are the consumption of meat and wine\, satire\, dancing and singing – particularly serenades – as well as the masked revellers and costumes. \n	Nowadays the Carnival festivities depend a great deal on private initiatives\, but also on Limassol Municipality\, which organises 11 days of festivities that include parades\, outdoor dances\, costume competitions\, visual arts exhibitions\, etc. As in the old days\, the Carnival festive season officially starts on Shrove Tuesday. On this day the people of Limassol gather at various locations in the town’s historic centre\, where they celebrate the traditional season customs\, such as the consumption of meat (tsiknomata in Greek)\, serenading\, and makeshift parties. The carnival events\, and the merry-making in the taverns\, nightclubs and hotels\, peak on the two weekends. It is on these two weekends that the children’s parade as well as the main carnival parade are held\, with the participation of thousands of carnival-goers\, locals and foreigners. \n	For further information and the programme click here  \n	Start date/End date:  7-17 March 2024 \n	Tel: +357 25745919  \n\n	  \n\n

SUMMARY:Limassol Photography Festival
DESCRIPTION:BPRArts Cultural Management presents the “Limassol Photography Festival”\, which opens on 20 October and will last until 12 November 2023. The Festival is being held with the financial support of the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture. \n The Limassol Photography Festival aspires to be established as an important annual event that will significantly contribute to the presentation\, development and evolution of photography. Its primary aim is to promote photographic creativity as an outstanding form of visual expression\, both on the national and international levels. \n As part of the modern photographic landscape\, the Limassol Photography Festival aims to function as a means of recording contemporary social life in the various visual styles and perspectives of the photographers/creative artists\, which project\, suggest and sometimes enrich the photographic vocabulary. \n This year’s Limassol Photography Festival is dedicated to the late participating photographer George Pantazis who left us on the 4th of October 2023. \n The theme chosen for 2023 is “Place or Landscape”. The artists participating in the open air exhibition at the Molos Seaside Park of Limassol\, namely Antigone Solomonidou Droussiotou\, Nicholas Constantinou\, George Pantazis\, Mo Khatib and Max Zhiltsov\, infiltrate the city and through their pictures convey its daily life and local identity. The experiences and techniques of the artists converse with the current image of Limassol and interact with it. The composition of diverse semiological elements in their photographs gives rise to the question whether this is a Place that has become a Landscape or a Landscape that has become a Place. Exhibition curated by Stefanos Kouratzis. \n In a second photographic exhibition titled “Greece is Ordinary II: Triptychs”\, curated by Konstantinos Argianas\, which is presented at the 6×6 Centre for Photography\, the participating Greek photographers Marilia Photopoulou\, Costas Kapsianis and Marinos Tsangarakis\, although setting out from different starting points with their own particular objectives each\, all indulge in a sarcastic yet highly critical commentary on various aspects of modern Greek culture\, its underlying causes and their material traces. The particular work may be described as an alternative visual anthropology of modern Greek culture.\n		  \n Venue\n\n Name: Various areas in Limassol – For the areas click here \n Start Date/End Date: 20 October – 12 November 2023 \n Start time/End time:  For the time click here \n Entrance:  Free\n		 \n\nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: BPRarts Cultural Management\nTelephone: 99 48 66 16\nEmail: catherinenikita@bprarts.com\nPostal Address: \n32 Dimofondos\n1075 Nicosia

SUMMARY:23rd Paradise Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:Your favorite summer will be with you again to celebrate together its 23rd edition in the same place we meet in recent years\, at beautiful Val`s Place\, in the beautiful village of Gialia\, on Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th of August 2023!\nThis year we will present 6+1  shows – 3 each night – including 21 musicians from Cyprus plus two specially invited stars from abroad\, having as a highlight of this year`s event the first performance of Mario Bakuna in Cyprus. He is bringing his music from the ‘Brazilian Landscapes’ promising a magical evening!!\nIn general\, we have once again prepared a rich musical program that we feel very proud to present to you! \n\n	Friday 25th of August\nWe start on Friday at 8.30 p.m. with the first appearance of the Havana Noche at our festival. The well-known Lain Jazz Band is hitting Paradise Jazz Festival`s stage for an unforgettable set\, willing to transmit their energy\, enthusiasm\, and passion for Latin music. The band was formed in Cyprus by percussionist and drummer Constantinos Paouros and participating musicians from Cuba\, Colombia\, and Cyprus. Their music is rooted in Latin jazz genres such as son cubano\, salsa\, timba\, and cha-cha. \nIn Gialia Village\, partners on stage will be Alexander Rodriguez  – on piano\,Mike Michael – on trumpet\, NicolasTryphonos– on acoustic bass\, and Giorgos Koulas – on congas. \nNext on Friday are Allusion Quartet. The band is based on a collaboration between Antreas Yerolatsitis (guitar) and Omiros Miltiadous (drums). After many years of playing together in different band settings\, styles\, and concepts\, the two musicians are now joined by Marios Charalambous on tenor saxophone and Kyriakos Kesta on double bass\, forming a full band quartet. \nThe Allusion quartet is playing primarily their original compositions. Their music is jazz with influences from many genres\, such as pop\, funk\, soul\, blues\, modal and free. As a result\, every performance is an exciting variety of sounds and grooves. Improvisation and spontaneity\, collectiveness\, and interplay are some of the main characteristics of their playing style. \nAnd last Friday’s show is the highlight of our festival. The ‘Brazilian Landscapes‘ is the new project conceived by Mario Bakuna featuring new arrangements of material by great composers such as Marcos Valle\, Claudio Bertrami\, Gilberto Gil\, João Bosco\, and the ‘forrozeiros’ Dominguinhos and Luiz Gonzaga. \nBrazilian Landscapes is a legitimate piece of Brazilian Jazz and a tribute to the culture and memory of the Brazilian people and is the result of years of inspiration Mario drew upon while traveling through Brazil\, experiencing its rhythmic and harmonic richness. From the arid landscape in the northeast that’s brought to the chorus of songs of Forró\, Baião\, and Xaxado\, to the African influence found in Ijexá\, the popularity of Samba and the sophistication of Bossa Nova\, Mario\, and his musicians celebrate the most musically-rich territory on Earth. \nMario Bakuna is on vocals and guitar\, Elias Ioannou on trumpet\, Christos Yerolatsitis on piano\, Rodrigo Cáceres on bass\, and Rodos Panayiotou on drums.\n  \n\n	Saturday 26th of August\nOn Saturday evening\, we will start with Eleonora`s Roussou“Beats’n’Pieces”\, which is a music project of songs from various music genres – as suggested by its name – and was created in 2018\, aiming to explore the diverse depictions of love in different music styles. As time goes by\, the repertoire keeps growing\, and this year’s exploration is in jazz\, pop\, and soul\, including some original songs.\nEleonora Roussou– voice\, flute\, melodica\,Alexis Kasinos– guitar\,Andreas Rodosthenous– bass guitar\, Rodos Panagiotou– drums \nWe will continue within the framework of our academic goals and will grant a little time on stage for young apprentice artists and creators. Last year Dafni Koulas appeared as a surprise\, but this year she will officially present us with two new compositions.\nDafni is 12 years old\, and she started playing piano at the age of 8 with teacher Antonis Polikarpou. Until now\, she had already created more than 10 compositions\, and some of them were used for contemporary dance choreographies by Milena Ugren Koulas.\nFrom September she will attend the music gymnasium in Limassol. \nOn the next show on Saturday\, we will meet “MOCA”an instrumental band formed out of four friends who share a deep passion for jazz music and have studied it extensively in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. They also have had the opportunity to teach and play music together in the vibrant and diverse city of Mumbai\, which has further enriched their musical knowledge and experience. \nWith their finely-tuned skills on various instruments\, this quartet delivers a powerful and dynamic sound that showcases their talents while seamlessly blending to create a harmonious and cohesive performance.\nTheir unique style draws from a range of jazz influences\, and it’s a collective work that contains original music from all the band`s members. Each member brings a distinct flavor to the mix\, and their performances reflect their dedication to their craft and love of music.\nMarios Menelaou is on bass (Cyprus)\, Odysseas Toumazou on guitar (Cyprus)\, Christos Yerolatsitis on piano (Cyprus)\, and Aron Nyiro on drums (Hungary)\, who will visit Cyprus in August to join his friends on stage.\n \nThe last performance of Saturday and our festival is a gypsy jazz group that combines the rich musical traditions of the world with an accent of the French and Balkan region\, with jazz in the first role\, creating a unique and captivating sound. The band’s talented musicians deliver excellent performances that are sure to delight the audience.\nWith soloists\, the singer Atys with the typical gypsy voice\, and the special guest from Greece for the show\, trumpeter Pantelis Stoιkos will travel us through Central Europe and the Balkans.\nThe perfect outcome complements Odysseas Toumazou on guitar\, Christos Yerolatsitis on piano\, Marios Menelaou on bass\, and George Koulas on drums.  \nLocation:\nVal’s Place\nPostal address: Pano Gialia\, Paphos\, Cyprus\nPhone number: +357 96511179\nSocial media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ValsPlaceGialia  \nStart date/End date:   25 – 26 August 2023 \nStart time/End time:  20.30  \nVisiting Hours: 19:00 \nEntrance Price/Τicket:  €25 or  €45 for both nights \n\nEvent Website and/or Organiser Website:  https://paradisejazzfestival.com/ \nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: SOCRATIS EFSTATHIOU\nTelephone: 97747327\nEmail: paradisejazzfestival@gmail.coΜ\nPostal Address: Georgiou Klenthous 7 Emba 8250\, Paphos

SUMMARY:Head & Hand | Akamantis - Kyriaki Costa
DESCRIPTION:Akamantis | Head and Hand | walking tour 1.\n Exploring the Ecology of Art\n Tour language: English / Greek\n Within the context of the art project “Akamantis | Head and Hand” by Kyriaki Costa\, a walking guided tour will take place in Polis Chrysochous and in the wider area of Akamas on the 25th of August.\n Friday 25.08.2023\n Time: \n 17.00 Anassa Hotel\n 18:00 Marion-Arsinoe Local Archaeological Museum\,\n 19:15 p.m. City Hall of Polis Chrysochous (back yard and meeting room)\n Reservation by phone: 26322955\, 26321321 or by email: costakyriaki@gmail.com.\n\n Starting from the exhibition locations and themes of the project and stops at key observation points for the Akamantis / Head & Hand project\, the route will follow the underground streams of the five rivers that flow into Chrysochous Bay. Through this tour\, a new reading of the area emerges with central points of reference being history\, myths and ecology.\n\n Creating new associations with the place and its stories\, the tour aims to involve the community in the research process and create a network between residents and visitors that will focus on the important role of humans as members of the biotic community of the place .\n\n Our research team includes the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous Yotis Papachristofis\, Folk Artist Andreas Moditis\, the educator and poet Kyriaki Drakou\, the historian Sofronis Lazarou\, the former museum guard Mr. Andreas Symeonidis and the teacher Mr. Giorgos Georgiou.\n\n The routes and discussions are based on the map designed as part of the “Akamantis | Head & Hand” and connects the exhibition spaces with the wider area and with places where water sources have been identified.\n\n			 \n\n Route Curators and Guides:\n Antigoni Michael (Archaeologist – tour guide\, specialist in Cultural Heritage)\n Dr. Christina Lambrou (Art Historian)\n Research\n\n Research\, Planning and Organization:\n Margarita Kouali Consultant from the Department of Antiquities\, Konstantinos Perikleous (Terra Cypria: Biologist – Conservation and Wildlife Scientist)\n Dr. Mairy Athanasiou (Geologist Paleontologist)\n Kyriaki Costa (Artist / Researcher)\n\n Supporters: Polis Chrysochous Municipality\, Visit Cyprus\, Vasilikon Winery\, Thanos Hotels\n\n At the Marion-Arsinoe Museum the artist\, inspired by the archaeological\n findings\, as well as other objects that testify to the direct association of water with funeral rites and purification ceremonies\, proposes a series of works – contemporary offerings to the healing and restoration of humans’ relationship with the environment. Ancient aqueducts\, brought to light through the exhibition and with the significant contribution of the Department of Antiquities\, bear witness to the actions and interventions of humans in their efforts to make the area habitable. Alex Ioannou’s short film “No Drop to the Sea”\, which is hosted at the exhibition\, acts as a complementary element\, as it explores\, through the voice of Vrahimis Ioannou\, the technical achievements related to the water infrastructure which transformed the peninsula of Akamas and the area of Paphos in the mid-20th century. All the above contribute to the creation of a dialogue which connects the past with the present.\n\n The works at the Anassa Hotel testify a more intimate preoccupation of Costa with themes such as the flow of time and the space between the real and the imaginary. The artist enters the warehouses of the Anassa Hotel to collect materials that are no longer of any use to the hotel\, such as bedding and various metals\, which she reuses as raw material for her works\, placing them in a new cycle of life. The forms of the sculptural works\, as well as the images that the artist creates\, are on the threshold of representation and abstraction\, transporting us to a world where humans coexist with mythical and unreal forces. The WIP Festival looks at this Brave New Humanity that explores how our sensorial\, analogue selves fabricate new civilizations and augmented worlds that are simultaneously close and far from the “natural”\, as D. Norman argues in “The Invisible Computer” (1998).\n \nThe emerging conceptual clusters – Raw\, Mechanos\, Transience and Play – include projects that act as critical commentaries\, inquiries\, and aestheticisms on the shifting environmental and human conditions.\n \nRAW presents projects that reveal unfamiliar relations and reciprocations between natural resourcesand technology\, critically commenting on contemporary tensions\, and showing the shifting environmental and human conditions through the looking glass.\n \nMECHANOS brings to the foreground ongoing research projects that utilize cutting-edgetools and processesfor creative and technical purposes. The tangible prototypes and emerging applicationspresented shift the human-serving epicentre of technology to a human-environmental direction\, sensitive to the complexities of the natural world.\n \nTRANSIENCE includes projects looking into the post-human condition\, narrating – or even actualizing– augmented and imaginary realities through interfaces and virtual spaces.\n \nPLAY invites you to a meta-arcade\, exploring the digital revolution’s disruptions as interactive reprojections and gamification.\n \nThis year’s featured artworks\, talks\, and workshops are situated supra-locally\, amongst the feverishly changing landscape created by the collision of novel natural and technological environments\, fertilizing our immediate future. \nVenue: \nName: CYENS’ premises and other venues in the proximity of the center\nPostaladdress: Dimarchias Square 23\, Nicosia 1016 Cyprus\nPhone number: +357 22 747575\nWebsite:https://wip.cyens.org.cy/\nSocial media: https://www.facebook.com/CYENSCoE/ \nStart date / End date: 11 – 23 November 2022 \nStart time / End time: 11 Νovember (opening event): 16:30 – 23:00\n                                     12 – 23 Νοεμβριου: 11:00 – 19:00 \nEntrance Ticket: FREE \nFor the programme please click here \nEvent Website: https://wip.cyens.org.cy/\nOrganiser Website: https://makerspace.cyens.org.cy/ \nSocial Media Channels of Event and/or of Event Organiser:  \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/469730341889058/?ref=newsfeed\nhttps://www.instagram.com/cyens_coe/?hl=en \n \nOrganiser Contact Details \nName: CYENS Thinker Maker Space\nTelephone: +357 22 747575\nEmail: tmscontact@cyens.org.cy\nPostal Address: Dimarchias Square 23\, Nicosia 1016 Cyprus

SUMMARY:Offstage Festival
DESCRIPTION: \n–          6 workshops & seminars from 6 industry professionals\n–          All ages welcomed\n–          Workshops & Seminars in English & Greek\n–          Several Durations\n–          2-day pass/1-day pass/Single-workshop pass available \n16:45 – 18:15\nPlaying with Light with Karolina Spyrou\nThe basic function of light in our everyday life is to make things around us visible. Light brings us visual information\, which we turn into thoughts\, interpretations and emotions\, and that is how our reality is constructed. In the world of theatre\, the basic function of light does not change. It exists to make things visible. The workshop will explore 3 basic principles of light: intensity\, direction and colour and how these basic principles can be manipulated to create scenes in a theatrical performance. It will also examine how they can be combined in order to tell a story and indicate the time\, alter the space and set the mood of a performance. Through images and practical demonstrations\, the participants will have the opportunity to investigate light and its absence\, shadows and basic principles of colour theory.\n \n \n18:30 – 20:30 \nLarge-Scale Festivals: From point A to point B and beyond with Andreas Trachonitis \nSo you want to bring your all-time favourite rock stars to your part of town to create a music experience that everyone will remember for years to come – you’ve planned everything out\, from the location\, to the poster and weighing up how many tickets you could possibly sell. Hold your horses\, because there’s a lot more to plan and consider. This two-hour workshop will lay out best practices and navigating the entire project timeline. From detailing budgets every step of the way to programming artistic direction. The workshop will have you weigh up smart options in keeping the environment safe during your festival\, making responsible and socially inclusive plans for the entire experience\, and while keeping safe while handling the entire festival. You’ll get the rundown on what to expect when collaborating with artists and their teams\, and how to accomplish the smoothest event coordination and production. The workshop will go through all participants’ questions to problem solve and examine how a large scale music festival is produced.\nSunday 16 October: \n15:00 – 16:00 \nMental Health in the Performing Arts with Myrto Makri \n \nThe Mental Health in the Performing Arts workshop will begin with a philosophical perspective on arts. What do we see as “art”\, and how do art and psychology combine? What are the difficulties that artists often find in the industry? Why do many people struggle\, and why so many artists get caught in harmful substances and activities? How do we learn to keep it together? Is this a skill to be learned? How do we “stay calm” in the madness of the industry?\n \n \n16:30 – 18:00 \n“Well\, it’s the Director’s Job” with Paris Erotokritou \n \nThe director is a relatively recent job title in the long history of theatre. But what exactly does a director do? What is his/her role in modern-day theatre practice? What are his/her responsibilities in relation to the text\, actors and audience? How can the director be the onstage ‘author’\, especially when working on classical texts – starting with the selection of a play up to its last performance? Using examples from Paris Erotokritous’ and other directors’ work\, the seminar will try to dissect and explore the issues raised by the above questions. The seminar will be followed by a Q & A session with the participants.\n \n \n18:30 – 20:00 \nThe Art and Craft of Orchestration: Bringing Musical Ideas to Life with Aris Antoniades \n \nLearn all about the beautiful but complex process of transforming musical ideas into structured\, holistic\, and organic pieces of music that are played at a show or concert. Enjoy this opportunity to discuss the craft\, art\, and business of orchestrating with a professional arranger/orchestrator. \nVenue:\nFlea Theatre Nicosia\nPostal address: 1028\, Gianni Koromia 2\, Kaimalkli \nPhone number: +357 99678569 \nStart date/End date: 15-16 October 2022\nStart time/ End time:  16:45– 20:00 \nEntrance Price/Τicket:  €15 for 1 workshop/seminar\, €35 for 1-day pass\, €65 for 2-day pass  \n\nTickets at SoldOut Tickets: https://bit.ly/3xAxifD \nMore info at info@teharin.com or @teharin_official
