SUMMARY:CySO - Starlight 2 - Great Performers
DESCRIPTION:Starlight 2 – Great Performers\n \nLefkosia: Friday 8 December 2023\nNicosia Municipal Theatre\, 20:30 \nLemesos: Saturday 9 December 2023\nPattihio Municipal Theatre\, 20:30\n  \nThe Cyprus Symphony Orchestrais delighted to announce the return of the stunning Ukrainian pianist Igor Tchetuev whose inspiring performance astonished our audience last year. The celebrated pianist will perform the legendary Third Piano Concerto by Sergei Rachmaninov\, one of the most demanding works of all times in the pianistic repertory. Yet another Russian masterpiece will complete the programme: Tchaikovsky’s Symphony no. 4 which explores the concept of faith. The composer himself confessed\, “I adore terribly this child of mine. It is one of only a few works with which I have not experienced disappointment. This is my best symphonic work”. The concerts will be conducted by the world-renowned maestro Charles Olivieri-Munroe\, a regular guest conductor with the CySO in the last few years.\n \nSupporter: Cyprus Swiss Association\n \nA FEW WORDS ABOUT PIANISTIGOR TCHETUEV\n \n« Tchetuev brought a genuine thrill – a sound that Neuhaus\, Sofronitsky and Richter would have recognised. That indefinable ‘Russian’ quality in the mid-range\, the crystalline treble and the defined bass\, all combined with a very strong interpretative personality. In a word – glorious! » Solo recital\, Wigmore Hall\, London\, May 26\, 2009\, Classical Music\, Rob Pennock\n \nIgor Tchetuev was born in Sebastopol (Ukraine) in 1980. In 1998\, at age 18\, he was the First Prize Laureate of the Ninth Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition and was also voted “Audience Favourite”.\n \nIgor Tchetuev is the guest of such orchestras as Orchestre National de France under Neeme Järvi\, WDR Köln under Semyon Bychkov and London Philharmonic Orchestra (Tchaikovsky n°1)\, Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev (Prokofiev n°3)\, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (Chopin 1)\, Bern Philharmonic\, Orchestre National de Montpellier (Tchaikovsky n°1/Ari Rasilainen)\, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra under Günter Neuhold (Tchaikovsky n°1)\, Russian National Philharmonic under Ken-David Masur (Beethoven Triple Concerto) and many more.\n \nHis recordings have received numerous awards: Prokofiev violin Sonatas with the violinist Andrei Bielov (Naxos)\, “Romantic Etudes” with Schumann\, Chopin\, Liszt\, Scriabin\, (Tri-M Classic)\, Three Chopin Sonatas (Orfeo)\, “Alfred Schnittke: Complete Piano Sonatas” (Caro Mitis\, Russia) (Preis der Deutschen Schallplatten Kritik in Germany\, R10 in Classica-Repertoire in France and a magnificent article in Gramophone Magazine) and his last recordings are the first five volumes of his Complete Beethoven Sonatas (Caro Mitis\, Russia) with fabulous press critics\, and a Medtner recording with the violinist Chloe Hanslip (Hyperion).\n \nSince the 2021-22 season\, Igor Tchetuev has been a professor at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU).\n \nA FEW WORDS ABOUT CONDUCTOR CHARLES OLIVIERI-MUNROE\n \nCharles Olivieri-Munroe’s hold on public imagination stems from a ‘combination of talent and charisma’ (New York Times) and a ‘passion for purity of orchestral sound’ (Toronto Star) supported by a proven ability for connecting with a strikingly diverse audience.\n \nHeis currently Artistic Advisor with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra\, Principal Guest Conductor with the Thüringen Philharmonie in Germany and Honourary Chief Conductor of the North Czech Philharmonic with whom he was formerly Chief Conductor between 1997 and 2014. He is also Resident Conductor at the Texas Round Top Festival Institute\, the longest continuously running music Festival of its kind in the United States.\n\n Charles Olivieri-Munroe regularly appears with major orchestras and opera houses throughout the world\, including the Israel Philharmonic\, Montreal Symphony Orchestra\, Toronto Symphony Orchestra\, Sydney Symphony Orchestra\, Berlin Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester\, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra\, Munich Symphony Orchestra\, Danish Radio Symphony\, Czech Philharmonic\, and others.\n \nBorn in Malta\, Charles Olivieri-Munroe grew up in Canada where he studied the piano with the eminent pedagogue Boris Berlin at the Royal Conservatory of Music and at the University of Toronto.  Following his graduation in 1992 he won three Canadian government scholarships to study with Otakar Trhlik in Czechoslovakia.\n\nHis international career was launched by a series of triumphs in international competitions culminating with his being honored with First Prize in the 2000 Prague Spring International Music Festival Conducting Competition. \nPROGRAMME\nSergei Rachmaninov:  Piano concerto no. 3 in D minor\, op. 30\nPyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony no. 4 in F minor\, op. 36\n \nIgor Tchetuevpiano\nCyprus Symphony Orchestra\nCharles Olivieri-Munroe\n \nThe Cyprus Symphony Orchestrais delighted to announce the return of the stunning Ukrainian pianist Igor Tchetuev whose inspiring performance astonished our audience last year.
