SUMMARY:Tsakkisti elia (green olive) festival - 7-12.10.2024
DESCRIPTION:This year’s “Green Olive Festival” aims primarily to further promote the traditional product of the green cracked olive and its preparation method\, as well as to introduce the public to other products that feature olives as a key ingredient. Additionally\, through this festival\, we seek to highlight our cultural heritage\, the customs and traditions of our region\, as well as our traditional dances and songs. This year\, the entire event will be significantly upgraded and extended in duration. \nThe “Green Olive Festival” will take place from October 7 to October 12 this year. During the week\, experiential workshops will be held for the preparation of traditional olive pie and other baked goods at a local bakery\, as well as a screening of a film about olives at a local open-air cinema (there would be a parallel screening at the indoors cinema hall). On October 12\, the event program will begin with the opening of the traditional olive mill\, followed by a small artistic performance at the outdoor space of the mill and a contest for cracking green olives. Then\, accompanied by live traditional music\, there will be a “patinada”—a traditional procession where musicians and dancers parade through the streets\, performing lively folk music and dance— the the parking place of Protis Apriliou (1st of April) Square. There\, the event will continue with a traditional celebration including live music Vasiliki Hadjiadamou’s band and Cypriot folk dances performed by the “Othellos” dance group. \nAt the event main venue\, there will be stalls selling green cracked olives\, extra virgin olive oil\, traditional sweets made with olives\, olive paste\, various olive-based baked goods\, olive oil-based cosmetics and an experiential workshop on olive cracking. Upon entering the main menu\, each visitor will receive a traditional treat consisting of warm bread with olive oil\, cracked olives\, and wine\, as well as canapés where cracked olives will be used in a more contempory manner. Additionally\, there will be a publication available to the public that will include both the preparation process of green cracked olives\, as well as traditional and modern serving suggestions recommended by a professional baker and a professional chef\, along with recipes for dishes featuring olives as the main ingredient. DESCRIPTION:WIP24: De-Clouding Art & Technology in the Heart of Nicosia \nThe WIP (Work in Progress) Arts & Technology Festival returns for its fourth edition from the 18th to 27th of October\, 2024\, turning the old city of Nicosia into a dynamic space of creativity\, technology\, and innovation. Following the success of previous years\, WIP24 promises a unique experience where art\, technology\, and innovation come together to explore the challenges and opportunities of our present and future. \nThis year’s theme\, de____cloud\, reflects the tension between two perspectives: the Symbiocene\, which imagines a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature\, and Hyperreality\, a concept from Jean Baudrillard that questions the blurred lines between reality and simulation. Through this theme\, the festival investigates the complexities of our techno-driven present while seeking to clear the beclouded visions of our potential futures. \nHosted at the newly renovated Old Municipal Market\, which now houses the CYENS Centre of Excellence\, WIP24 makes use of this unique venue to bring together artists from around the world who utilize new technologies to challenge the boundaries of reality. \nA Platform for Exchange and Exploration \nWIP24 offers a wide range of activities\, including exhibitions\, workshops\, talks\, and performances\, providing a platform for dialogue between artists\, scientists\, technologists\, and the public. Visitors can explore topics at the intersection of art and technology through the variety of engaging formats\, and the exciting opening party in the heart of the old city. \nKey Venues and Highlights WIP24 will take place across several venues in Nicosia\, including the CYENS Agora Building\, the Wood & Metal Workshop\, Dimarchou Lellou Demetriadi Square\, and Theatro Polis. The highlights of the festival are: \n· Opening Party on October 18th at Dimarchou Lellou Demetriadi Square\, with live music\, interactive displays\, and performances. \n· Workshops and Talks by international experts at the forefront of art\, science\, and technology. \n· Exhibitions from international artists working in interdisciplinary contexts. \nThe Future of Arts and Technology in the Mediterranean \nOrganized by the CYENS Centre of Excellence\, WIP24 is quickly becoming a key platform in the Eastern Mediterranean for scientists\, artists\, and technologists working at the intersection of these fields. DESCRIPTION:Olive trees and Mediterranean: a unique harmonious coexistence\, perfectly connected and identified for centuries create a special culture\, the culture of the Olive Tree\, a part of the Mediterranean Culture.\nThe olive trees coexist with humans in almost all Neolithic settlements of the eastern Mediterranean\, including Cyprus.
