DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, 12 August 2026\, the Troodos Observatory invites you to an evening dedicated to observing the Perseids\, one of the most impressive meteor showers of the year.\n\n\nIn the outdoor area of the Observatory\, there will be free stargazing sessions\, free observations with portable telescopes\, as well as free screenings of the documentary “Troodos: Rising to the Stars.”\n\n\nOptional stargazing and observation sessions using the 0.5 m PlaneWave telescope will also take place at the following times:\n\n\n21:00–22:00\n22:00–23:00\n23:00–00:00\n\n\n*Advance booking is required for the optional activities due to the limited number of available places. DESCRIPTION:The Lysos Cultural Festival is one of the most important institutions of the community and is closely connected with the history\, tradition\, and identity of Lysos. Starting in 1984\, the Festival has been held almost every year and has become a special cultural event that brings together generations\, families\, friends\, and expatriates of Lysos from every corner of the world. \nEvery year\, the Festival serves as a major meeting point for residents\, friends\, and especially the expatriates of Lysos\, who return to the village from different countries to reunite with relatives\, friends\, and fellow villagers. It is an evening full of emotion\, memories\, and love for the village\, where older generations remember the past and younger generations learn about their traditions and roots. \nThis year’s Cultural Festival at the Lysos fountain will take place on Sunday\, 16 August 2026\, at 8:30 p.m.\, in a location of special symbolic importance for the community. The Lysos fountain\, a landmark and traditional meeting point of the village\, will host a beautiful summer evening dedicated to culture\, music\, dance\, and tradition. \nThe evening’s programme will include live music and dancing by the musical group “SCORPIOS”\, with the participation of Giorgos Hatzis and Marina Angelou. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a festive musical evening\, with songs and rhythms that will create a warm and joyful atmosphere for everyone. \nAt the same time\, the Festival will honour Cypriot tradition through traditional dances performed by the Ieroi Kipoi Cultural Group\, offering visitors an authentic cultural experience. The traditional dances give the event a special character\, highlighting the customs\, heritage\, and cultural identity of our community. \nThere will also be stalls offering food\, resi\, drinks\, and sweets\, giving visitors the chance to enjoy traditional flavours and experience the genuine hospitality of the community. Resi\, one of the most characteristic traditional dishes\, holds a special place in the Festival and is directly connected with our folk tradition. \nA particularly interesting part of the day will take place in the morning. At 10:30 a.m. on 16 August\, there will be the grinding of resi at the traditional mill of Lysos. This activity revives an older village practice and gives visitors\, especially younger people\, the opportunity to experience an important part of our cultural heritage. \nThe Lyssos Cultural Festival is not simply an entertainment event. It is a tradition that keeps alive the memory\, heritage\, and unity of the community. It is the moment when Lysos opens its arms to residents\, expatriates\, and friends of the village\, offering an evening full of music\, dancing\, traditional tastes\, emotion\, and beautiful memories. \nFrom 1984 until today\, the Festival continues to be a point of reference for Lysos and its people.
