The Past Restored: Pallouriotissa and Kaimakli

The City Route of ‘The Past Restored: Pallouriotissa and Kaimakli’ partially takes place on a mini bus, as well as by foot, and tours two of the most peaceful areas in Lefkosia (Nicosia); the historic neighbourhood of Chrysaliniotissa (within the old city walls), and Kaimakli - a small suburb within the Municipality of Lefkosia.

Visitors can see interesting buildings of the past that have been renovated, with the old nucleus of Kaimakli still boasting some of the most distinctive examples of late 19th century architecture, built by the renowned master craftsmen of the area.

Alongside the older buildings are newer ones, which have attracted residents to the area once more following its abandonment in 1974, as a result of the Turkish invasion.

The Bus and Walking Tour leads you to the most noteworthy sights of Kaimakli and Pallouriotissa, the old north-eastern suburban areas of the city outside the walls featuring:

 The Venetian Walls – Flatro Bastion
 Pallouriotissa schools & the old train station
 The urban architecture with the narrow streets
 The old square of Kaimakli
 St Barbara Church
 The weaving workshop
 Zampelas Art Museum(reference)
 Reference to the old Municipal Market
 The restored centre of Pallouriotissa
 Famagusta Gate
Total walking distance: Approx. 3 km (The walking route is indicative and may be altered if deemed necessary)

 Lefkosia is ideal for walking as it enjoys abundant sunshine with mild winters & sunny summers, so put on some sunscreen cream, comfy shoes and a hat, take a bottle of cool water and join the tour!

 Many streets within the old city are for pedestrians only, so the best way to get around is on foot

 Most of the places of interest are within walking distance of each other
