Fashion Awareness Festival

Fashion Revolution Cyprus and the community of Agora Project are inviting you to Fashion Awareness Festival @ AGORA PROJECT, in Lefkosia.

Venue:
Municipal Market of Lefkosia
Plateia Dimarchias
Lefkosia, Cyprus

With the support of the Municipality of Lefkosia, NiMAC, Youth Council of Cyprus and the Youth Board of Cyprus.

Local designers, artisans and artists, including the Agora Project community, are joining forces in a celebration of solidarity and love for fashion.
The fashion industry is the 2nd reason of human trafficking, globally, following the sex industry. Children, men and women from developing counties, and not only, they work under modern slavery circumstances. No safety and hygiene measures, exhausting working hours, poverty wages are some of them. Their labour unions don’t represent them properly, and the challenges they have to deal with in a daily basis are sexual, verbal and physical violence, zero quality of life and racial and gender discrimination. 80% of them are women, with no chance of promotion or raising their salary, because of their gender.
The fashion industry is the 2nd greater polluter of the environment, following the oil industry. A garment to be made , goes through many stages. This is called a supply chain. In all these stages, you will find massive polluting processes, such as pesticides and huge quantities of water during farming, washing, dyeing of the raw material needed to make the fabric. Toxic chemicals and dyes, whose waste ends up in our rivers, oceans and drinking waters. Burning of no longer needed stock of products or because of a cancellation of an order. We throw away our clothes, after wearing them a few times and they end up in the landfills, taking years to decompose. Our planet is suffocating because of fashion.
We all have the power by changing our purchasing habits to turn the fashion industry into a force of good, and press for a positive reform. United, we can do that. At Fashion Awareness Festival at Agora Project, you will be informed about the dark pages of the fashion industry. You will learn easy and fun ways to extend the life of your clothes. This means that you will do good to the environment and you will be a positive impact to your beloved ones.
That is why, we support our local designers, artists, artisans and makers. We also support the ones who work based on sustainability and circular economy.
Fashion Awareness Festival at Agora Project is a celebration of solidarity to all humanity and the environment. Being in fashion is now c a r i n g about the others.
Come join us to this wonderful journey.
We all have the power to make it happen!!!
