DESCRIPTION:TRIBUTE TO SOLON MICHAELIDES AND VASILIS MICHAELIDES\nPart of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary\nof the Greek revolution of 1821\n \nThe Cypriot Committee for the celebrations of the 200th Anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821and the Ministry of Education\, Culture\, Sports and Youth\, in collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra\, present a Tribute to the Cypriot national composer Solon Michaelides (1905-1979) and to the Cypriot national poet Vasilis Michaelides (1849 or 1853-1917)\, as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution.\n \nThe event will include the performance of selected musical works by Solon Michaelides interspersed with excerpts from the poem “The 9th July 1821” by Vasilis Michaelides\, recited by Costas Charalambides.\n \nThe Cyprus Symphony Orchestra\, under the direction of Mikis Michaelides\, joined by the mezzo-soprano Rafaella Charalambous and the baritone Pavlos Pantazopoulos as soloists\, will performthe following works by Solon Michaelides: the Ballet “Nafsika” from the opera Ulysses\, the Cantata The Free Besieged (poetry: Dionysios Solomos) for soprano and baritone\, the songs “Your eyes” (poetry: Nikos Kranidiotis) and “My Keryneia” (poetry: Kypros Chrysanthis) for soprano and orchestra\, orchestrated by Mikis Michaelides\, “The prayer of the humble one” (poetry: Zacharias Papantoniou) and “Aigia i kotchini” (“The Red Goat” – Cypriot pastoral song) for baritone and orchestra\, as well as the Cypriot National Anthem for orchestra.\n \nCYBC’s historic video-recording from 1975 of «Romiosyni» (“The Greek race”) by Vasilis Michaelides\, set into music for mixed choir by Solon Michaelides\, with the composer conducting the “Aris” Choir of Limassol will be also be shown during the event.  \nVenues:\nLemesos: Pattihio Municipal Theater\nThursday 11 November 2021\nTime: 20:30 \n\nLefkosia: Nicosia Municipal Theatre \nFriday 12 November 2021 \nTime: 20:30 \nWithin the Nicosia International Festival 2021 \nEntrance Free. For people between the ages of 12-17\, negative Rapid or PCR test with a validity of 72 hours.\n3.
