SUMMARY:Hambis Municipal Printamking Museum\, Nicosia - 21.1-18.4.2026
DESCRIPTION:The Evolution of Printmaking  in Europe from the 16th Century to the Present Day through Works from the Hambis Printmaking Museum Collection \nThe exhibition includes only the first two printmaking techniques\, Woodcut and Etching. \nOn the occasion of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of Europe\, the Hambis Municipal Printmaking Museum in Nicosia\, presents an important exhibition of prints from its collection. The exhibition offers an overview of the two basic techniques of printmaking\, woodcut and etching  in Europe. The works have been selected based on the variety of periods in which they were created – from the 16th century to the present day – as well as the variety of themes. Emphasis is placed on presenting the different methods of the two techniques. \nThe aim of the exhibition is to highlight the creativity and inventiveness of printmakers in relation to painting. With the aim of highlighting the primary and essential role of Printmaking in the dissemination of images across all social spectrum\, the exhibition presents both independent works and book illustrations\, aimed at a wide audience. It also offers an overview of European artistic movements\, with works by the great names in painting and printmaking. The exhibition\, presents the many exchanges in the art world between European countries. \nA brief history of the two techniques \nPrintmaking appeared in the West World in the early 15th century and contributed significantly to the dissemination of texts and images. Woodcut\, the original form of printmaking\, was based on engraved wooden blocks that could be easily printed along with the typographic elements. In this technique\, only the raised\, unengraved parts of the wood retain the ink and are imprinted on the paper\, a process called Relief. The ability to reproduce works gave artists the opportunity to disseminate their designs to a wider audience. \nFrom the 15th century onwards\, woodcut began to compete with etchings. Engraving on metal plates\, mainly copper\, allowed for greater precision and detail\, as metal is more durable and uniform than wood. In copperplate printmaking\, ink is retained in the engraved lines\, while the smooth areas are cleaned\, a process called intaglio. \nAlthough printmaking made great strides\, it never gained the prestige of painting\, as it struggles to fully render the nuances of light and color. However\, many important artists were also printmakers\, creating original works of high artistic value that brought art closer to the general public. \n  \nΛεζαντες / captions \nJohann GRÜNINGER – Βεργιλίου Αινειάδα Η άλωση της Τροίας (5091 III) \nFrans MASEREEL La ville N° 13-42-72-100 (4918-21) \nΧΑΜΠΗΣ Η φραγκοεκκλησιά (4632) \nAuguste RODIN & Auguste LEPÈRE Buste de Balzac (5254) \nFrancisco José de GOYA y LUCIENTES Nadie nos ha visto(3943)   \nMarc CHAGALL L’âne chargé d’éponges et l’âne chargé de sel (3480) \n  \nCurator – Texts: Helen Reeb \nCollection: Hambis Printmaking Museum \nOPENING HOURS \nWEDNESDAY – SATURDAY \n10:00 – 13:00 / 15:00 – 17:00

SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - TRIBUTE TO VICKY STYLIANOU - 5.3.2026
DESCRIPTION:CYPRUS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA – TRIBUTE TO VICKY STYLIANOU \n Lefkosia: Thursday 5 March 2026 – Pallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate\, 20:30 \nWith this special concert\, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra honours and celebrates the memory of Vicky Stylianou – an artist of remarkable musical contribution\, both as a pianist and as an orchestrator. Having had the honour and joy of numerous collaborations with Vicky\, the Orchestra holds in its heart many beautiful\, vivid memories of her radiance as an artist and her warmth as a person. \nUnder the baton of the Orchestra’s Honourary Conductor Alkis Baltas\, the concert will fittingly open with Maurice Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte\, an elegiac meditation of profound tenderness and lyrical beauty. \nWe are delighted to be joined on stage for the first time by Antonis Manias\, one of the most distinguished Greek violists of his generation\, as the soloist in Weber’s Andante and Rondo Ungarese for viola and orchestra. In this work the viola sings with warm lyricism in the Andante and dazzles with fiery\, Hungarian-inspired rhythms in the exuberant Rondo Ungarese. The acclaimed violist will also perform Alkis Baltas’ Makbule for solo viola and orchestra\, based on the well-known ‘rebetiko’ melody “Makbule” and dedicated to Antonis Manias. \nAlan Hovhaness’s Symphony no. 6\, “Celestial Gate” is a deeply spiritual and luminous work that unfolds as a vast\, transcendent sonic meditation. The symphony blends ancient modal melodies\, shimmering orchestral textures\, and a sense of timeless ritual to evoke a mystical passage between the earthly and the divine. \n  \nPROGRAMME \nMaurice RAVEL: Pavane pour une infante défunte\, M.19 \nCarl Maria von WEBER: Andante and Rondo Ungarese for viola and orchestra \nAlkis BALTAS: “Makbule” for solo viola and orchestra \nAlan HOVHANESS: Symphony no. 6\, op. 173\, ‘Celestial Gate’ \n  \n Antonis Manias viola \nAlkis Baltas conductor \n  \nThe concerts are held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. \nSupporters: Pafos Municipality \nTicket prices: 15 / 10 (μειωμένο) \nConcession tickets are available to: \nStudents\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID. \nFree Entrance for people with disabilities. \n  \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181) \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert.

Inspired by the iconic Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra\, this event combines relentless endurance\, mental fortitude\, and the breathtaking beauty of Cyprus into an unforgettable challenge. \nAs one of the very few ultra races on the island\, and likely the only one that lasts this long in both distance and time\, CBU stands out as a unique test of human endurance. \nRace Format: \n– Runners start together and must complete a 6.706-kilometer loop within one hour.\n– Those who finish early must wait at the start line until the next loop begins.\n–   No breaks or outside assistance are allowed during the loop\, rest is only permitted between loops.\n–  As the race progresses\, each loop becomes a grueling test of physical stamina and mental resilience.\n– The event continues until only one runner remains. \nThe Challenge: \nWith no set finish line\, the Cyprus Backyard Ultra is a true battle of pacing\, recovery\, and sheer determination. The last runner standing after all others have DNF’d (Did Not Finish) is crowned the winner. \nSet against the stunning landscape of Oroklini\, Larnaca\, which combines breathtaking views of the sea from a hill\, this race is not just about endurance\, it’s about camaraderie\, pushing boundaries\, and creating memories that last a lifetime. \nFor the Technical Race Instructions click here

SUMMARY:Cyprus International Orienteering Festival 2026 - 18-22.3.2026
DESCRIPTION:The Cyprus International Orienteering Festival (CIOF) is held over five days. Each day is a separate event at a different locaction. Orienteering is an individual sport and competitors start independently at intervals. At the start they are given a map with control sites already printed on it. Their aim is to use their navigational skills and a compass to find all the control sites in order in the fastest possible time. Electronic timing devices\, called SI-cards\, held on the finger\, are used to mark the start\, tag controls and mark the finish\, so each competitor has an overall time. Missing a control means disqualification. \nThere are different categories and age classes for men (M) and women (W). The elite class is M/W21. SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Ochestra - STARLIGHT 4 - 18.3.2026
DESCRIPTION: Lemesos: Wednesday 18 March 2026 – Pattihio Municipal Theatre\, 20:30 \nΙn the Starlight 4 concerts\, two great artists of international standing join the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra: Sharon Kam\, one of the world’s leading clarinetists and Michalis Economou\, a world-esteemed conductor\, composer\, and educator. \nTitled “a most imaginative and individual artist” by the ‘Gramophone’ magazine\, Sharon Kam is praised for her rare expressive warmth\, technical brilliance\, and charismatic stage presence. Renowned for his deeply communicative musicianship\, Michalis Economou brings his refined artistic vision to the three masterpieces of this concert. \nΤhe concert starts with the work Kommos B\, “Lament for Morton” written in 1996 by the celebrated Greek composer\, conductor\, and educator Theodore Antoniou. Dedicated to the memory of the American composer\, conductor\, and pianist Morton Gould\, the piece uses the first phrase of a mourning song from Epirus. \nSharon Kam will shine in Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto no. 2\, a work of dazzling virtuosity and lyrical charm\, written to showcase the clarinet’s expressive range. From sparkling agility to warm\, songful introspection\, its elegance\, theatrical flair\, and playful wit make it one of the instrument’s most beloved concertos. \nEdward Elgar’s Enigma Variations is a masterpiece of orchestral imagination and emotional resonance. Each variation is a musical portrait of a close friend\, revealing Elgar’s rich palette\, subtle humour\, and profound humanity – from the noble breadth of Nimrod to the work’s exuberant conclusion. \nPROGRAMME \nTheodore ANTONIOU: Kommos B (Lament for Morton) \nCarl Maria von WEBER: Clarinet Concerto no. 2 in E flat major\, op. 74 \nEdward ELGAR: Enigma Variations (Variations on an original theme\, op. 36) \n Sharon Kam clarinet \nMichalis Economou conductor \n  \nThe concerts are held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. \n Gold Sponsor: Perestroika (Cyprus) Ltd \n  \nTicket prices: €25 / €18  Ι  €20 / €15  Ι  €17 / €12 \nConcession tickets are available to: \nStudents\, soldiers\, pensioners\, large and five-member families on presentation of ID. \nFree Entrance for people with disabilities. \n  \nTicket presales: \nPattihio Limassol Municipal Theatre (Ayias Zonis 4\, 3027 Lemesos\, 25 377277): \nOnline at soldouttickets.com.cy\, https://soldoutticketbox.com/starlight4-2026 at the Box Office: Mon-Fri 10:00-13:00 & 16:00-19:00\, Sat.: 10:00-13:00 and 2 hrs before the concert. \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and 1\,5 hrs before the concert. \nInformation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy

SUMMARY:Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Events 1 - RUTTER: REQUIEM -2.4.2026
DESCRIPTION:Lemesos: Thursday 2 April 2026 – Rialto Theatre\, 20:30 \nComposed in 1985\, John Rutter’s Requiem is an intimate\, contemplative and lyric meditation on the themes of life and death. Leaving aside any grandiosity and drama\, it is a gorgeous masterpiece that moves towards light rather than darkness. Αs Rutter openly stated\, his approach to the genre was clearly influenced and inspired by Faure’s Requiem. \nIt is precisely because of this approach that Rutter’s Requiem has wide emotional appeal\, one that clearly touches the heart of every listener. To bring out these qualities\, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is delighted to collaborate with the superb Georgian conductor Levan Jagaev\, the distinguished sopranos Mariza Anastasiades and Eleni Charalambous\, as well as the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra Choir. \nThe seven sections of the work form an arch-like meditation: the first and last movements are prayers to God on behalf of all humanity. The second and sixth are psalms. The third and fifth are personal prayers to Jesus Christ. The Sanctus\, which the composer describes as “celebratory and affirmative\,” is the center and is an affirmation of divine glory\, accompanied by bells as it is in the Roman Mass. \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Exsultate\, jubilate sets the seal on resurrection joy. Its virtuosic vocal brilliance\, buoyant rhythms and luminous melodies beautifully project the radiant text of rejoicing and exultant praise. \n  \nJohn RUTTER: Requiem for solo soprano\, mixed choir and orchestra \nWolfgang Amadeus MOZART: ‘Exsultate\, jubilate’\, K. 165 \n  \nMariza Anastasiades soprano \nEleni Charalambous soprano \nCyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra Choir (choirmaster: Loizos Loizou) \nLevan Jagaev conductor   \n  \nThe concerts are held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. \n Co-produced by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation and Papadopoulos & Schinis Productions \nTicket prices: Stalls: €25 / 23\, Balcony: €20 / 17 \nTicket presales: \nConcert 2.4: Online at www.rialto.com.cy and at the Rialto Theatre Box Office Monday – Friday 10:00 – 15:00\, 77777745 \nInformation: Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation: 22 463144\, www.cyso.org.cy\, PAPADOPOULOS & SCHINIS PRODUCTIONS LTD: 25 372855\, www.psproductions.com.cy

SUMMARY:Cyprus Sympnony Orchestra - A MAGICAL NIGHT Maria Farantouri sings Mikis Theodorakis - 14-15.5.2026
DESCRIPTION:The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is greatly honoured and excited to join forces for the first time with the distinguished Greek artist Maria Farantouri in a special tribute to Mikis Theodorakis\, for a truly magical night! The concert also marks the first performance of the Orchestra under the direction of the its new Artistic Director\, the internationally acclaimed conductor Myron Michailidis. \nMaria Farantouri\, the iconic interpreter of Mikis Theodorakis\, will perform with her uniquely profound expressiveness and inner intensity a selection of the composer’s most celebrated songs\, alongside seven songs from the song cycle Odyssey (2007\, poetry by Kostas Kartelias). \n‘Odyssey’ is the final song cycle composed by the great Greek composer. Its creation was sparked by the emotion Mikis Theodorakis experienced\, upon first reading the poetry of Kostas Kartelias in 2006\, at the age of 81: “When I read Kostas Kartelias’s poems\, I suddenly felt a stirring\, as I did when I was younger\,” the composer confides in the album’s presentation. It was only natural that Theodorakis entrusted both the interpretation and recording of these songs to his quintessential interpreter\, Maria Farantouri. “Mikis Theodorakis surprised us with this new\, fresh and romantic work. We are accustomed to his austere expression\, yet lyricism has always glowed beneath the surface of his songs\,” Farantouri herself has remarked about the cycle. \nThe songs of ‘Odyssey’ form a journey into the depths of the modern human soul: love\, loneliness\, and existential impasses\, as each of us\, like a contemporary Odysseus\, inevitably confronts “clashing rocks” in the search for our own “Ithaca.” As Theodorakis eloquently writes: “Here\, the very subject matter points to the exaltation of the ‘individual’\, who\, like Odysseus\, struggles alone—himself and the sea. Thus\, the ‘individual’\, that is\, our very self\, must ultimately come to terms with the idea that Ithaca does not exist\, and must instead cling to his own passions and emotions in order to remain afloat on the foaming sea that is life.” \nThe concert culminates in a selection of the composer’s most emblematic songs. The incomparable melodies of Mikis Theodorakis—so deeply cherished—interweave creatively with the poetry of leading Greek poets\, illuminating the timeless power and universal resonance of his work. The orchestrations\, both of the ‘Odyssey’ cycle and the songs\, are by Antonis Sousamoglou and Lazaros Tsavdaridis. \nThe evening is further enriched by the symphonic ballet suite ‘The Carnival’ (1953)\, a work that vividly reflects Theodorakis’s creative assimilation and transformation of Greek popular music. As the composer writes: “In 1947\, I was in exile on Ikaria\, and it was then that I first came into meaningful contact with our popular (laïkó) music. The first song I heard was ‘Captain Andreas Zeppos’… Immediately afterwards\, I began systematically collecting popular (laïkó) songs.” This song\, along with other Greek popular (laïkó) and folk melodies and dances\, is imaginatively orchestrated by Theodorakis\, “seeking those orchestral colours that respond to the character of the work’s rhythmic and melodic material.” \n  \n‘The Carnival’ was first presented in November 1953 in Athens by the Athens State Orchestra under the direction of Andreas Paridis. It was later staged as a ballet at the Rome Opera in 1954 by the Greek Dance Theatre of Rallou Manou\, with the Rome Opera Orchestra. Subsequent symphonic premieres followed\, in Paris in 1958 and London in 1959. \nThe authentic interpretations of Maria Farantouri\, the dynamic presence of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra\, and the interpretative vision of conductor Myron Michailidis offer a unique musical journey\, illuminating the multifaceted work of Mikis Theodorakis—from the deeply human and intimate creator to the leading Greek composer of global stature. \n  \nPROGRAMME \nMikis THEODORAKIS: \nPopular and emblematic songs \nSeven songs from the cycle ‘Odyssey’ (poetry: Kostas Kartelias) \nOrchestrations: Antonis Sousamoglou\, Lazaros Tsavdaridis \n“The Carnival” – symphonic suite \n  \nMaria Farantouri\, vocalist \nCyprus Symphony Orchestra \nMyron Michailidis\, conductor \nThe concerts are held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. \n  \nTicket prices: Zone Α: €35 / €30 (concession) and Zone Β: €30 / €25 (concession) \nTicket presales: \nPallas Theatre\, Pafos Gate (Rigainis and Arsinois corner\, 1010 Lefkosia\, 22 410181): \nOnline at cyso.interticket.com and at the theatre box office 1\,5 hrs before the concert.

SUMMARY:Regatta of Champions – The R.O.C. (Optimist & ILCA4) - 8-15.11.2026 & 22-29.11.2026
DESCRIPTION:After several years of reviewing Optimist sailing events worldwide\, the changes in sailing and the rapid transition to a technological race that has somehow relegated sailors and coaches to secondary status\, Famagusta Nautical Club and the organizers of Regatta of Champions – The R.O.C. cooperated and organized for three consecutive years the pioneer for the sport of Sailing\, the Championship of Champions. \nRegatta of Champions – The R.O.C.\, is the result of a four-year effort that finally reached the implementation phase in 2022. A form of event that had never been done before\, worldwide\, that can be held anywhere in the world\, in any country and in any category\, using the sponsors and standards of the organizers. Scheduled again this year on 08 – 15 of November and using the same pattern\, the top 45 Optimists from around the world are invited to The R.O.C. Applying a selection formula\, based on difficulty of events\, invitations are sent to the top sailors of the World Championships\, as well as all Continental Championships (European\, North & South America\, Asia and Oceania\, and Africa). At least 20% of invitations will be for the other gender. If a Continental Championship is not completed before the R.O.C.\, invitations are sent to eligible sailors from the same continent\, the previous year. \nAll invitations are given\, in person and/or through the National Federations and addressed to specific sailors. If the invited sailors are unable to participate in the event\, then the invitation is transferred to the next ranked sailor. In addition\, there are 19 Wild Cards for sailors to claim during 2025. One Wild Card will always go to the National Champion of the country or the top athlete of the Club hosting the event. 10 Wild Cards are given to the top 10 sailors of our subsidiary worldwide event\, The R.O.C. Kosmos\, which will be organized for 3rd consecutive year in Athens\, from 03 – 10 of July\, with co-organizer Nautical Club of Kalamaki\, and the rest 8 Wild Cards are split into 2 sailing camps with the top 2 winners from each camp getting invitations\, either through existing international races held around the world. Once the fleet is invited and formed\, the 5th Championship of Champions will once again take place in Limassol\, Cyprus. The event lasts a week with 5 competition days\, and plenty of events. \nOur pioneering spirit\, however\, continues and expands our Annual World Event\, as this year\, after intense study and global interest from athletes and coaches of the ILCA4 boat category\, we are organizing\, in the same vein\, the 1st International Regatta of Champions – The R.O.C. ILCA 4. \nThis race\, which will be organized from 22 – 29 November 2026\, in Limassol\, at our venue again\, as we have mentioned\, adopts the exact same pattern as the Optimist category event\, with the only difference being the number of athletes\, which is 40 instead of 45. The subsidiary competition The R.O.C. Kosmos\, will also be organized for the ILCA4 category\, on June 24th – July 1st\, in Athens\, which will also give the opportunity to 18 participating athletes to claim a wild card. We emphasize again that the exact same pattern is followed in both competitions. \nParticipating sailors and coaches are chasing the Champions Cup\, but mainly an academic scholarship prize money of €33\,000 which is awarded to the top 10 sailors in the form of scholarships for academic expenses and to the top 3 coaches in the form of prizes. \nThe participation fee covers registration\, accommodation\, meals and boat charter actual costs. One or two boats accommodate all coaches; however\, optional coach boat charters are available\, per coach. \nOn the official website of the event\, www.regattaofchampions.com you can find all the details and rich photographic material of last year’s event\, which left an excellent impression on the participants\, attendants\, visitors and managed to win the interest of the global sailing world\, for the innovative this idea and its excellent implementation\, adding value to today’s sailing events around the world. Remarkable\, unique and highly effective in its aim\, the promotion of the event\, including all events and sailings\, through the live streaming service\, leaves all those interested\, worldwide\, with the most positive impressions. \nThe organizing committee of the Race is ready\, with more experience now\, to work even harder for even bigger thrills. \n  \nRegatta of Champions – The R.O.C.
