Historic hotels constitute a unique category of accommodation shelters with significant architectural and historical value. They are characterised by the age of the buildings, the architectural style, and their connection to specific past occurrences, operating within structures that reflect the design and trends of their time. These establishments provide guests with a glimpse into the past while also offering modern amenities. The preservation of historic hotels not only serves tourism, but also contributes to maintaining the historical and architectural heritage of the region.

The label “Historic Hotels of Cyprus” aims at establishing the key characteristics that a hotel or tourist accommodation must possess in order to be classified as a “Historic Hotel.” By introducing this label/standard, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism seeks to further enhance and enrich the product, contribute to the preservation of the area’s historical heritage, and highlight the historical evolution of the hotel industry, as well as its contribution to economic growth, architectural heritage, and social well-being. The ultimate goal is to elevate Cyprus’s image as a tourist destination.
